I have a Garmin dash cam mini with the power dongle. I have it behind the rear mirror and it's completely hidden. Highly recommend if you want to forget it's there.

If you're looking for something bigger, or with a display, or with front and back recording, the mini is not what you want.

I prefer something with a screen.

I did seen these mentioned as a good dash cam, for it size.

Being mounted to the windshield does UV damage dash cams?

I've had a Garmin 56 in my Tacoma and one in my wife's Armada for about 2-1/2 years now. Both are powered by a Dongar SimpleUSB adapter. Both have performed flawlessly since I've had them. After the first month or two you'll pretty much forget that you have it... unless something occurs that you want to review.

Would I need an adapter? Is it for length?

You and cameron172 mentioned a adapter.

Eh just get a fitcamx or a mini and just connect with your phone imo. Another screen just means it'll be more money

Any dash cam that captures an incident and your able to show cops/insurance is a good one.

I’ve got thinkware F200 pro front and matching rear in my truck and my wife’s Pilot. I’ve installed lots of Rexing and thinkware cams with good results

Yes. Most cams come with a long USB power cord that has to be tucked into the trim work of routed somewhere. The adapter allows the USB to be plugged into the plug on the rear view mirror. Removes a ton of extra wiring and work for a clean install.

I'm not sure what truck you have, or if it's even a 3rd Gen. If you have a rear view mirror that is powered (for compass, or dimming, or garage opener) you can use the adapter to supply switched power to your Dash Cam very easily, with no additional wiring to run. See this post for some pics. The adapter you would need depend on your truck, and again the mirror needs to be powered when ignition is on.

I have a Garmin Drive 45. It’s an older unit now but it does the job. It’s been in my last 3 vehicles and when I got T boned, it got the asshole who hit me 5 citations and his insurance to admit fault within 5 minutes of sending them the video. It’s not 4K and old tech now but you can’t go wrong with a Garmin.

The camera going in a SUV.

Not sure about the rear camera yet. I may purchase the rear cam at a separate time.

The Garmin 67W is in stock locally. I can't find much reviews on this model. don't know if it's a good thing.

What's better a 140 or 180 degrees recording view? I read someone mentioned that viewing with the 180 degrees viewing angle is like looking through a tube. Everything is round looking.

The wider the view , the less distance you will have out front. It will be what they call fisheye. It’s usually not as bad as you think. Search back through my threads, you will see posted about 3 years ago my dash video of when I got plowed into for reference.

Do you recommend the 140 degrees over the 180 degrees better?

I never seen the neither viewing angle in person.

Later this morning I'll try to get some images from my 56. Also I'll have to look up what its field of view is, since I don't remember the numbers.

I personally do not have a preference. Although I thing the 180 may be a tad to wide for me as all I care about is what’s in the lanes of travel in front of me. Any further imaging from the sides I believe would be way distorted due to the curvatures of the windshields and or A pillar blockage.
