I'm strongly considering that one. The price on Amazon is certainly appealing.

Looks like it's the same as this, and he reviews enough dashcams to know what's what

The G1W is the same as the G1W-C, only different is the G1W has a battery and the G1W-C has a capacitor. Meaning, the battery will run out over a few years and thus when you cut power to the camera it will eventually corrupt your files. The capacitor will keep the camera on long enough to save the final file. Plus, the G1W-C is only a few bucks more.

Oh nice, I would rather have the capacitor over the battery anyway. Good to know

I got sideswiped today coming home from the grocery store. Dash cam caught it all, so I'm quite happy with my cam purchase. I highly recommend my dash cam (see my earlier post for details) and suggest you get one if you are on the fence about getting one. I feel much better knowing I have proof to backup my explanation on how the collision occurred. FYI, volume & language ;)

    dude, 150 bux WTF?

I have this exact cam front and rear for two years now, and it is WAY cheaper elsewhere !!! I paid 60 bucks for mine and it has been flawless.

just search for dash cams, similar style head unit, and ones with rear camera. they are all basically the same cheap chinese unit.

    scroll through them here

What about a dash mount for your phone. there are plenty of dash cam apps out there. I tried one the other day turn phone sideways and it worked good

Phone will use up all your storage even if it allocates a certain amount and rewrites it. I prefer a more permanent solution.

My brother does that with his iPhone. IMO, it is a hassle to remember to pull up the video recorder app and hit record.

As for my dash cam, I start up my truck and it automatically fires up and starts recording. I don't need to remember to turn it on or turn it off.

Good point. MY 1080P cam will eat up 32G of space easily, on a road trip.

Well.... broke down and bought this dash cam.

I was using my GoPro cameras but now that they are almost always attached to my helmet or DH bike all the time it got to be a pain swapping them back and forth. I really like this model and although pricey it has a lot of cool options included (including the 3.5" touchscreen). As soon as you start the truck it starts recording and when you turn it off it stops. If you are involved in a accident it will store automatically the 10 secs leading up to the accident and 1 min after the accident so it doesn't accidentally get deleted.

I had to move my UG to the side from where it was to make room for the camera but it works fine in this spot.

I mounted it here as I didn't want the tape to be seen through the outside of the windshield (yep.... I'm that OCD).
The pictures look worse than it really is and it doesn't block the view anymore than the mirror so that was a non issue.

The white band you see on the side of the camera is actually a flashing white light while the camera is recording

hid head lights, hid fog lights, always on fog lights, bed lights
is there a dashcam that will continue to record even if truck is off (on battery)? maybe with a front and rear facing lens? A few times I come back to my truck and see a scratch. I know there is nothing I can do after the fact, but I just like to know how the scratch or ding happened.
