Oops my bad, I forgot to answer your question. it continually records and if looping is turned on the footage will be in 1, 3, or 5 minute increments (I set mine to 5). when the sd card fills up it will overwrite the oldest video file. If looping is off it will create a new file when it reaches 4 something GB till the card is full. The files are .mov (QuickTime), You can plug the camera or insert the sd card into your computer and it mounts like a flash drive each file is named with the date and a random sequence number.

Wellllll.. I do get all that. Buuuut.. I was asking if there's an actual "save" button or "lock" button on the unit. To lock a file from being overwritten. I know some units have this. And I'm not worried or wanting it for accident/law enforcement reasons. Because obviously youd be taking that home asap and uploading it right away so no chance of a recent clip you NEED getting erased as it'll be recent.. Just wondered in case I record some jackass driving and wanna save it so I don't forget about it and possibly have it overwritten. Is all. So I can upload it later in the dash cam incident thread or whatever it was called.
Edit: plus making it easier to sort through the clips. I would hope anyways. I assume it would probably move it to a separate locked folder. That way you don't have to watch every clip and try to find the one you want..

Ahh I see, no save button but it has a G-Sensor so if the camera senses a good amount of shock or sudden braking etc it will lock the current file from being over written. You could jiggle the camera or flick it to lock a file manually I guess.

I have a contour roam 2 for a dash cam, they sell a window/dash mount for the camera on a quick detach rail. I like it and it was not to expensive.

So saying you have it set to like 5 minute clips...and can record hours of footage... That seems like a crap load of clips it saves!!

You could also have a spare SD card as backup so that you could pull the current card and still keep recording and not have to worry about overwritten footage.

Mine only records 1 minute clips. I could easily get cheap software to stitch them together and I probably will at some point. Since it records 24/7 front and rear, whether the truck is running or not, you can imagine that if I want to find a specific clip, it takes a while. It does label the clips so I know if they were taken while parked or driving and it tells me before I open the clip whether it is the front or rear camera so that does help a bit.

that looks great. I've read that if I "downgrade" to an earlier firmware, I'll be able to set my clip time and record at a higher bit rate. I would lose the cloud feature but at this point I don't really care about that.

I was viewing a live feed from home yesterday from my iphone and airplaying to my TV. The truck was close enough to the house to be on my home wifi. I got a popup saying I had exceeded my live feed cloud viewing time and I had to pay monthly to purchase cloud space. I'm not going to do that. Great cameras, nice video quality, but the cloud thing seems like a joke at this point

I'm really looking forward to reviewing the video next time I take the truck in for service. Not that I expect to catch anything and I know with the hood up I won't see much but hey, at least I'll be able to hear what's going on and see a bit when they drive it.

I got one on eBay for 17 bucks. Didn't want to spend a lot right out of the gate. Will go into camera mode so you can take it out and take pics of any damage in case of wreck. Has SD card also.

I did see the option on my G1WC for playback with a protect option so maybe that is the file save. I have not tried it though.

Got it! Tech Support had me change the SSID name for the Blackberry to something alpha numeric and 10 characters in length. I can now view what is happening live from my dash cam while I sit in my office. I was in Switzerland last week and could view a live feed from my truck sitting in my driveway in San Diego. How cool is that?!? Only issue now, is that I am limited to 10 minutes of live cloud viewing per day. Hoping I can get more on the cheap.
