[IMG] Ive been looking to change out my dash display to something like this because the stock one isnt ideal for night vision, even when dimmed. This red one would be perfect, but I dont know about going about it. Are there any aftermarket brands? Open to any suggestions.

Thats just the early 2005+ guage cluster. I bet somebody with one of those trucks would be willing to trade ya.

Edit to add: Forgot about the odometer. Yeah go with what the other guys said.

Are you handy with a soldering iron? If so the job isn't too hard to do

That's what I was afraid of, since I have no experience in soldering I didn't want to do it myself. But I suppose I could ask a friend who does.

Were there any changes to the dash after the facelift on the 2nd gens? Cause if not I'd rather do that

I would see if a friend could do it. It's really simple. I've done a few in various colors. There's about 50 surface mount leds depending on if you change them all or leave the warning lights orange.

Edit. This is my dash at night.

I always felt that green would be a great color for gauge lights the contrast.Red is the best color to help maintain night vision though.

I think they added the white sections to make the numbers contrast more only it is sort of bright.

I usually set the dash brightness to a fairly low setting in anything I drive as I find no matter the color if it is too bright it lowers night vision and tends to distract. The blue dash above for example to me that is too bright I'd have it maybe 30% dimmer.

Remember when it was just simply a dash light and the needles lit up? A buddy in high school had an 84 Honda Civic. We where riding some place one night and the dash lights failed. Not a good thing for an inexperienced driver.

A lot of people say the blue is too bright. Guess I've gotten use to it and since I'm out where there not much traffic I run my light bars most of the time so it's like daylight.

As far as write ups the hardest part is taking apart your dash and even that isn't hard. Only like 3 bolts and 3 screws and the rest snaps out. This is the link I originally followed to get my dash apart a few years ago. http://www.xr-underground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=941

Why is that? If your headlights are on, what difference does it make if dash lights are red? Also, the oncoming traffic's headlights. Just don't understand the logic.

The cluster you have was used from 2011.5+. The one you included a photo of was from 2005-2011.

I don't think changing LEDs will do anything in your case since it's like a bright white backlight behind the numbers:

I'm not sure if you can swap to an earlier cluster without any problems.

The 14's should be the same size led as the 2005-2011 so this is them. http://www.oznium.com/1206-smd-led
Depends on what you change will depend on how many you need. But you want to order extra in case you lose them or burn one up. 50 should be good.

Its in my build thread. The pic is blurry and I have them turn up all the way. I usually keep them dim cause I like to keep my interior lights all low
