I'm going to open up the dash and replace what I have read are (4) #194 bulbs. I think one burnt out years ago. Those 4 bulbs are just for the gauges and gear indicator, right?

As far as the warning lights go, my seatbelt light today is no longer lighting, whether key-on or engine on. You don't see the airbag light on the below key on test, but it does come on for a few seconds. Are there any others that I should be seeing? The manual is suggesting there's a low gas, ABS, washer fluid, and A/T oil temp lights, and that these should all light on key-on. Possibly just more burnt out bulbs? Do these have a standard bulb number as well?

Seatbelt light? Oh I forgot there was one, I haven't seen mine in over a decade. But that's cause I unplugged it under the seat.

I have the newer white face cluster so will be different from yours. I think I remember that some older years didn't have the low fuel light? On my cluster I can see the cut out for it when not lit up, it's on the fuel gauge, looks like yours doesn't have it? It only lights up when the fuel is low, doesn't light up with key on.

I have a low windshield wiper fluid light, also doesn't light up with key on, that one is on the bottom row, the same window as the check engine light. I don't have ABS so no idea where that would be. There's also rear diff lock light if you have a locking diff, turns on only when the button is pressed.

I can't say 100%, but the original hardcopy manual included with my truck says those should all light up on key-on. edit: except the washer fluid light; I read more carefully and that one is a Canada thing. So the additional lights I should see are seatbelt, gas, and ABS.

If for some reason my manual is wrong, then at least the seatbelt light should be working like it was yesterday. I'm guessing the bulb is out. If it were some other wiring issue I believe it should stay on?

I don't remember reading in the manual that the fuel light should light up for my year with key on but I've had my truck since 2004 & that's the way it has always worked on my truck. Only lights up when fuel is low.

The seatbelt light is a simple "dumb" circuit unlike newer vehicles. If you unplug the 2 pin connector under the seat the light won't turn on at all. So I would think the opposite, if you had a wiring issue as in an open circuit it wouldn't turn on. If the circuit had no issues it should be on unless your bulb is out or there is something wrong with your seatbelt latch.

I would look under the seat first since it's easy, check if the connector is plugged in.

I just read some of the old posts on CT & TTORA. According to them 95.5 to 97 didn't have the low fuel light. 98-00 only some models had the low fuel light. Some clusters had the cut out for it but there was no traces/wiring. 01-04 came standard. And clusters with no tachometer never had em but not sure if that applies only to 98-00 or 01-04 included.

Ok, I fiddled with the seatbelt connector, which is stuffed full of yellow goo (??), and that's working again. One problem down for now! I don't know what could have happened there.

So it sounds like the manual could be wrong on the low fuel light. Same with ABS light?

Also maybe I don't need to replace the set of gauge bulbs. Mainly the issue is the green light for 'D' is out or very dim. The other green and orange gear lights are fine. Is that some kind of standard bulb?

I think I know what you are talking about as far as the "yellow goo". I've seen it before and I believe it's purpose is used as dielectric grease. But the stuff used on Toyotas looks more like lithium grease rather than a clearish silicone type grease.

As far as the shift indicator lights I don't know, 01-04 doesn't have em. My truck doesn't have ABS & I've never seen a cut out for the indicator. But if your truck does indeed have ABS then I would think it should have an indicator for it, every car I've owned or worked on with ABS had a light.

Do you know for sure that you have ABS? Do you have the ABS pump on the passenger side fender well behind the intake tube? Do you have the ABS lines coming off the UCAs?

Yeah I guess I probably don't have ABS. I'm not familiar enough with those parts, but for sure the wheels lock if I slam the brakes.

Great, more problems solved! So just the shifter light for D is left. If that's the only thing, now I'm doubtful whether it's worth the trouble. It would be nice to see if I'm D. I can still tell if I must be in D by deductive reasoning.
