Y.T. showed Steering Wheel off-that made me slam on my breaks right there-no way can I do that.

Why off? The only thing you need to take of from the steering wheel is the top cover of steering wheel column. This one is easy. The cover is interfering when removing with the panel above it. But the steering wheel can stay in place. I guess, you watched the wrong video :)

Here is the instruction I used. This is later model, but very similar steps are needed. The only difference from that instruction was removing the steering wheel column cover (it was impossible for me to remove the plastic part above it with the cover in place). Tilting all way down was not enough. The other was the last step, where I had to figure out the speedo cable.

Bu the way, it takes time to disconnect all wires (switches). It is like Catch 22 - you can't pull the panel out because wires are short and you can't disconnect these wires because the panel is so close to the dash. You need to somehow reach behind the panel in blind and feel your way to all these plugs. This is why not 15min.

But the good thing is, putting it all back together is easier as long as you don't forget to plug all wires back where they belong :)

My lower lights are off (where the Cruise light is) but I've been too lazy to dig into the problem in the heat of summer :anonymous:

It’s pretty awesome. This guy’s video of cleaning the contacts on the back of the cluster helped me fix my lazy gas and temp gauges. He has other tacoma videos that are equally well made and they don’t make it look wildly easier than it is, unlike some videos. Worth a follow imo.
