yeah, you can pull off the knobs and carefully pull that plate off. it's held in there by 2-3 clips. comes out fairly easily. there are two #74 bulbs behind it.

The bulbs are a OEM item....They come CLEAR from the dealer. The ones in your truck have a GREEN condom on them which you need to roll off the old bulb and roll back onto the new item (easy)

I think they were about $3 each and there are two bulbs bac there.

Try twisting them, im not sure if its similar to the 01-04's but mine you have to twist and pull to get them out.

96-99 1st gens behind the A/C are just designed to slide straight out. If they are twisted, they will break.

Back to square one after the 2001. So...
You need to disassemble the center console, remove the temp control unit, and take the black cover off the back. The little f'ing bulbs twist in from the back, and were like $9 each from the dealer.

Check out the pics in my photo gallery titled TempCtrl and CDashRem. I also have a picture of the bulbs w/ part number there.

I think dis assembling the control is easy though, to me it seems that getting the cluster out will be more challenging than that was, but ive read thats its actually the other way around. 2 of the 3 bulbs on the temp control unit are non workin in my truck but all bulbs are good, just 2 of them dont make good contact and if you get them on they cut off with the slightest bump.
