to keep from completely high jacking this thread...im not going to comment any further on what you said other than socialism is a complete joke and will destroy our county.

Back on topic...camera looks nice. Im an insurance agent here in NC and I think that the camera could be a pretty good tool. Most likely though, even without the camera, after an investigation, it could be proven that he backed into you.

That would be cool, especially if you could take clips of your wheeling from the driver's POV, and then post them to this site!

We have something like this in our patrol cars. It has save our officers butts a time or two, as people want to sue the city because they think we have deep pockets. The camera system shows clearly that our lights and sirens were on, and the officer was driving with due regard for safety, but the dumbasses pulled out in front of them.

I had a video of a female citizen actually pass me while I was running code on an interstate, pull in front of me, then slam on her brakes. I took the left shoulder, then she veered left putting me in the median ditch! I hauled ass to get to the accident I was running to, but later used the video to get her tag and cite the hell out of her. She claimed I was in the wrong. Her hubby was all pissed and came to complain until he saw the video. Then it was an apology and I'm sure a domestic when he got home.:D

I'm hoping for some good POV race clips. The system I ordered is on backorder but the company expects product in stock by next week. Fingers are crossed that it's a solid as it appears!

I have a mount for my GoPro helmet cam right behind my rear view mirror. I don't use it for day to day recording though, just for off roading.

Not from the truck yet but here's one from an IDPA shooting match. This is the older version, evidently they have an HD version now.

You're going to have to let me know how it turns out once you get it. I don't have the money for it quite yet, but hopefully soon :D.

There's actually been a couple times where I've (sorta) witnessed a crash, but couldn't be of much help as I happened to be looking in the opposite direction when it happened, and didn't look until hearing the crash. It would be nice to be able to help someone else get out of the same situation.

My SBX3100 setup with extra camera arrived today. Sick little kit!

The main module is the size of a standard computer mouse:

The entire kit comes with the GPS antenna, external microphone, remote control, wiring to hook into the vehicle's turn signals/brake lights/alarm, wires for an external display, and software to edit the videos and tie into Google maps for overlays.

Looking forward to getting this installed and tested in the Tacoma! :)

This system looks awesome. 3 cameras, gps, accelerometers...this thing has everything!

Plus you can leave it recording when it's parked and if anybody tries to jack something from the truck you'll have evidence. It's even got nightvision cams!

$400 is a great deal, too. Probably won't pay for itself, but would be hella fun to take wheeling.

I thought about buying a pinhole color/nightvision camera and mounting it on the backside of my rearview mirror to shoot wideangle out of windshield. Would be cool as hell......just never did it.

received 3 of the basic cameras today (SBX-1100 i think) and installed them into 3 VW Bugs...

total time to install all 3 took approx. 2 hours and that included a trip to Lowes

thats with running wires behind panels etc to make them appear to be professionally installed

I also ran a small screw thru the mounting bracket into the panel where theyre mounted to ensure stability and that the 3m double stick tape glue doesnt just fall off

Video quality is awesome...esp with the fisheye style lens...software is easy to use and records GPS coordinates accurately, along with Google Maps tracking, and shock readouts

lots of settings to play with but we upgraded from the basic 2GB cards that it comes with to much larger cards so we can record 2 hour drives start to finish with all the data

    very cool product

The 'witness' can be easily handled: go see them with a tape recorder, remind them what they told you at the time and then ask the question again. You'd be amazed to find just how quickly they revert to the truth.

If they DO persist in lying, just DO NOT be confrontational or argumentative. Simply ask them to describe the colors of the vehicles involved...what sex the respective drivers were...their hair colors or dress...anything else that will make their recollection look flaky.
