I had a dash rattle that was located behind my center dash vents. It occured on bumps and would disapear when I put slight pressure on the dash surface over where I heard the rattle.

I partially removed the center instrument panel cover enough to access the area. The vents have a short duct attached that inserts into the HVAC supply ducts. There is some foam that appears should isolate vibration that likey deteriorated.

My fix was to take some foam I had and apply it on top of the HVAC supply duct to keep it from vibrating against the dash if this was the cause. I added another piece on top the vent duct to put slight pressure where the ducts join. The latter was probably all I would have needed but I didn't want to have to open it up again.

    Center Console access:

1.Remove HVAC knobs being careful not to lose the semi-circle metal shaft inserts.

    2. Gently pry and pull loose HVAC contol trim face cover.

    3. Remove screws in this area (phillips screwdriver). There are 4 (I think). Use a magnet on the screw driver to prevent dropping screws.

    4. Remove ash tray and then remove the screw located on the right point upwards.

    5. From the vent and control area, gently pull center console trim out and down. I did not completely remove my rim and it may have required the removal of the ashtray/lighter cover. You still should have room enough to work.

    To replace:

It's a little tricky, but you have to slightly pull the center face trim out, then pull upwards to line up a clip just above the ashtray cover. Once it is lined up, you can press the trim back in place as you line up the other clips. Then reinstall in reverse order.

The whole operation took about 30 minutes and no more rattle.

    Update:

FYI- The defrost vent can also rattle. Check this by applying slight downward pressure on the vent while traveling over a road section that causes the rattle.

Thanks for the info. Mine rattles excessively to the point that I have been considering spray foam. I also had to jam a penny into the small slot between the airbag and dash. Hope it is not a bullet if it deploys. HAHA
