So reading other post on reviving my dashboard clock, i tried resoldering c9nnections for better contact with no luck until I realize there is a burn mark on screen of clock. Read it's a due to a burn fused. Haven't seen if this is repairable, but now thinking putting a single digital gauge with multi function meter. Dont know how to house it and trim cover for it.

Anyone else success in putting a new tech on dashboard clock space?

Take the VFD module out, and replace it with a voltmeter.

I'd put an aux light switch or something in place of the clock. It's not like you can see the clock in that location anyway, lol...

It’s easier to see on 1995-2000 trucks since we had a different steering wheel. I use my clock all the time.

Yeah, I hear about a few people of a certain stature (short people) that don't complain about the clock, but it's easily my most hated attribute of the Tacoma.

I had a 97 5 lug. I honestly don't remember what the clock was like. It probably didn't even have one. Aside from being an extracab, it was poverty spec.

My radio has RDS and he clock on the radio is syncing to the station currently tuned. I did not know that some radio stations are so lazy with updating their clock, so the clock in my radio can jump even couple hours depending on which station is on. My dash clock stays the same. It does not even change for daylight saving time on its own. Love it.

I swear, something is wrong with the clocks Toyota was putting out at the time. My clock in my 03 corolla has a mind of its own; it's on sometimes, off others, and dim sometimes as well. I know it's a pretty common problem with the gen, but I've never heard of anyone trying to go after market. I think they just fizzle out after a while.

Sounds like you need to resolder connections on back for better contact. Does it have a burn spot like mine?

I haven't pulled it out; I didn't realize the clock was like that until after I had done an aftermarket radio/sub hookup. I did that shortly after buying the car, so I hadn't realized yet that that not only the clock was like that, but my a/c dial flickers when you turn it and the center console lights for the gear knob were out too, unless you hit a really rough bump or punch the center console itself. I need to get in there and re-solder a bunch of stuff, but a few corolla owners I know have found their clocks burnt up. If I go in there and it does have a burn spot I'll probably just try to find one at a pick n pull. A luxury I wish I could partake in with the Tacoma, haha. I might peel it all apart when I replace my air bag sensor. Maybe :anonymous:

That burn mark is an integral part of a Vacuum Fluorescent Display, it is not a defect.
