In my 14 taco i bought a cheap one for $35
Works great, I don’t have a power in my rear view mirror but there was a plug up in the liner when i pulled off the over head consul so i tapped into that
Funny someone mentioned the tech trying to pull the power - they unplugged mine when it went in for a frame rust check

It's affordable, records 24/7 ( just get a large enough SD card, i.e. 128G ), over writes, auto saves when sensors are "jarred," get the hard wire extension, and has been reliable for me for over 2 years. All of my off-roading is recorded front/rear, and shitty drivers are recorded to report them. Best of all, peace of mind in a he said / she said argument as it recognized as an "independent" witness in court.

You won’t regret a dash cam. Recently, my wife got hit from behind while stopped at a red light. Lady that hit her said we backed into her LOL. Like who sits at a light and puts it in reverse and hits the gas. Anyway, my wife calmly says, I guess we shall see what the dash cam says since that doesn’t lie. Lady froze up and said, oh you have a dash cam. She quickly changed her tune. Dash cam footage submitted to their insurance, not a leg they can stand on. Dash cams are worth their weight and gold! I run them in both our vehicles. No regrets.

I have a kenwood DRV-A301W from Best Buy. Best $100 I’ve spent. Kit comes with a magnetic power cord and a standard plug in. I ran it along the top of the windshield, over the A pillar, into the door seal, then down under the dash and to the 12v in the center console. Nice clean set up that can easily be removed without taking anything apart

I’m not looking for fancy features I just need it to reliably record in good resolution during day and night. The dash cam does exactly that AND it’s very much likely in stock at your local Best Buy so you can have it today; not tomorrow not next week. I think it does have parking mode but I haven’t cared to set it up. It’s only front facing so there’s not much incentive incase someone hits along the side or rear while parked.

By all means avoid the cheap Amazon/eBay shit. Not worth the time at all ran three no name $70-100 cams all failed within a few days. One failed right when a Chevy Cruze veered into my lane. Was gonna show my friend the footage and guess what? It only recorded 10 seconds before and 20 seconds after the incident lol.

I see this every once in a while. Someone backs up because they’re on the cross walk or whatever then their dumb ass forgets they’re still in reverse.

The adapter plugs into your mirror, you plug your mirror plug and dash cam usb into the adapter, so you don't have to route/hide a long usb cable to get power to the cam. Works on 2016+ tacomas.

My picture a few posts back shows it.

Had a roav good picture, shitty touch buttons that only worked half the time, intolerable interface mandatory app that you were required to use slow as fuck transfer trying to download to your phone which required it's own basic VPN for some dumb reason and blocked use of your phone while transferring. (a five minute video should not take 23 minutes to download.) Heat caused the battery to expand and pop the screen off turns out it's a LiPo, glad it didn't burn my truck down. When it did it pop off the screen it tore the ribbon cable and bricked the device couldn't get the files I wanted off of it because it was encrypted and needed to be read from the device being beamed to a phone with the app which requires data connection. My computer wouldn't even recognize the SD card's format.

Now I have a Viofo(sp?) A129 it's pretty much exactly what I wanted, decent picture, not quite as clear as the roav nor as good with low light and light focus but I can pull the SD card directly out and watch on my PC easy or even pop it into my phone and there's no proprietary B.S. works just like a camera.

    Much happier with the A129.

My wife is a social worker, and does a ton of in city driving. I put a dash cam in her car and hard wired it. Piece of mind if something happens, and it does have a parking sensor. Amazon doesn't sell the one we got anymore, but it's very similar to this. Amazon.com: Rexing V1 Basic Dash Cam 1080P FHD DVR Car Driving Recorder, 2.4" LCD Screen 170°Wide Angle, G-Sensor, WDR, Parking Monitor, Loop Recording (V1 Basic), and I used this kit to hard wire it. Amazon.com: MEKNIC Dash Cam Hardwire Kit 11.5FT Mimi USB Hardwire Kit for Dashcam,12V-30V to 5V 2A Mini USB Dash Cam Hardwire Kit with Battery Protection,4 Fuse Tap Cables (Second Generation). It's right by the rearview mirror, and unless you look really hard you can't see it. You will need to buy a micro sd card for it. It's survived a very hot Tucson summer with no issues so far.

I have the one that was referenced in the above post. No problems with it and I've been using it for two years now:

    https://www.amazon.com/Rexing-V1-Ba...d=1627627278&sr=8-17-spons&smid=A6UEJTLUY290N

I removed that GoPro mount from my upper windshield edge and installed the windshield camera in it's place.

Make sure you use High Endurance SD cards with your security cameras.

I bought the Auckey Dr02 170° wide angle 1080p dash cam. I think it was like $70. I bought it in December 2018. It was originally I'm my Jeep and it worked ok. The optional power cord that plugged in to the OBD2 port and had a motion sensor didn't work so perfect. I just got a regular direct wire kit when I moved it to the truck and it's been work faithfully on every drive.
It was sold on Amazon but isn't any longer

Also sold directly from the manufacturer, I use this one as well. It does what it's supposed to do well enough that I bought another for my wife's Rav4.

Wasn't Aukey banned from Amazon for faking reviews? Like giving discounts or offers for 5 star reviews.

I know Rexing was also mentioned here, but they are also guilty of skewing reviews. I had a Rexing that was extremely unreliable, the internal battery then bulged and became a fire hazard. When I gave them a 2 star review, they contacted me to give them a 5 star review so they can refund my purchase...
