Any recommendation for a dashcam that I can hardwire directly to the truck?

We live in a dumb time so I need a dash cam to monitor 24/7.

A cam that has 4k and rear camera

A added bonus if I can download footage through app or Bluetooth

I recently installed a Fitcamx - easy peasy plug-and-play and looks stealthy and OEM

You can look into ThinkWare. I have these on three of my vehicles, all hard wired in, with front and rear camera, and parking mode recording.

I put a thinkware U1000 in daughters car along with the backup battery pack which is then hardwired. Also have nighthawk wifi plugged into the battery so I can watch remotely in real time.

im not super tech savvy so setting up the router was a bit of a pita for me but the camera no big deal. Wireless is a bit finicky sometimes and doesn’t always work.

I have a Viofo A129 plus Duo. Bought it 2 years ago. Had to have the rear camera replaced under warranty last spring and just had the front one replaced under warranty after a bit of bantering with their customer support. On their website they state only certain SD cards work with their system. Others are evidently unstable. I wouldn’t buy another.

    I have been summoned!

I currently use the blackvue dr900x-2ch plus which is probably one of the most top of the line dash cams with 4k front and 1080p rear.

    https://amzn.to/3SKXhdE

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yz0kF9r_GXM

For $160 you can add a 4g LTE module (https://amzn.to/3IMp2Or) too that allows you to monitor your truck with a live feed and receive notifications if it senses motion or an impact. personally i turn off motion detection tho because I don't want my phone blowing up everytime a car drives by or a person walks by.

Its not cheap, but at the same time, my deductible is $500, if I use it just once it pretty much covers the cost of my deductible or any extra time and money wasted if I was hit and run in a parking lot.

You can set what voltage it cuts off at to prevent a dead battery, and a timer (I use 9 hours) for the max it will record while you are parked. This also prevents having a low charge all the time. Driving 30-45 min a day will keep you topped off most of the time anyways though.

There is a new 970 model coming out next week, but I have been testing it and so far i am not seeing any improvement. If anything I think it looks worse. Blackvue is taking it back to inspect to see if it has a focus issue.

If you want something more affordable but still high quality video, Viofo A129 4k Duo is the way to go for sure:

    https://amzn.to/41HcMaM

There is also the 3CH model which you can get in a 2CH mode, I reviewed the 3CH model recently. Its launching on Amazon this month I think. the 3ch mode is only 24 frames per second, but if you use just the front and rear its 4k + 1080p 30 fps on both channels. I would personally go with this. Whats cool about the 3CH is you can hold the emergency lock button to turn the interior camera on or off when you want.

    https://youtu.be/WTDsd38uxmY

That has parking mode too, its not as advanced but it gets the job done. No cloud support with Viofo but to be honest using the cloud can drain your battery more than typical parking mode so its not for everyone.

One other high end alternative is the Thinkware U1000 but tbh I think its a bit outdated now, its several years old. I reviewed it on my youtube channel November 2019 and they still don't have an updated model. Blackvue updates their models more frequently.

Do you mind telling me which fuses you tapped into for the hardwire kit? I have a 2014 DCLB, and have a 2 channel dashcam on the way. Thanks.

DashCamTalk.com for lots of details. Serious dash cam nerding out over there in good ways.

Starvis 2 chip is what you are looking for now. It's the new hotness on the street.

4K isn't the end-all-be-all resolution you think it is. 4K with bad optics gets whooped by 1080 with good optics for reading plates and fine details. Go see for yourself on DashCamTalk.

I have a Blueskysea B4K in my Tacoma because that was a good quality camera at the time. Still good but better ones exist. Just bought a Viofo A229 Plus (2K) dual channel for another vehicle and I have no doubt it will outshine the B4K due to the new chip.

Any camera worth it's salt nowadays will have the option to hardwire / fuse tap for constant power.

I just ordered the Viofo A229 Pro 2 channel with the hardwire kit. I just need to decide which fuses to tap and how to run the back camera to my Leer cap. Thanks for the url.

I got a BlackVue 750? I think. Front and rear with the power magic ez obd kit. It was so simple. Just plug it directly into my OBD port and it records 24/7 until my battery drops to a certain voltage. Great dashcam. Only thing is I got a rear topper now and have been to lazy to rerun my rear camera to the back of the topper.
