DMM + Quad Lock TL/DR: Excellent purchase across the board, highly recommend.

Okay, I received everything and got install completed today. Took about an hour, including time to gather tools and assess the pieces and orientation. It's all preference, I just didn't care for the look of the claw mounts, I'm sure they work fine but I wanted something a little cleaner looking.

We already know the DMM is awesome, so my emphasis will be on the Quad Lock (QL), for those that might be curious about how well it works. Hint, it's all a 10/10

    Everything I picked up:

DMM and 1 ram ball (Taco Garage)
Quad Lock case for iPhone XS (QL Website)
Quad Lock 1 inch ball adaptor (QL Website)
Small Ram Mount Double Socket Arm (Amazon)

Everything has exceeded my expectations. I wasn't sure how the ball mounts would work with the QL setup but it is rock solid. The locking system is very rigid and takes a little force to snap in and out of place, I wasn't sure how well the ball mounts would hold in place. Zero issue. I had a Spigen (Ultra Hybrid) case on my iPhone that I was reasonably happy with, the QL is a similar style case. I personally like the QL case better, it's slightly slimmer, flush side buttons, and has a better grip. I was concerned about how far off the back the Quad Lock piece would protrude, and it's minimal. The phone does sit flat on a table, doesn't wobble. The only way I know that the case is slimmer is because of the square cup holder, the phone sits in the cup holder w/ the QL case on but a little too snug w/ the Spigen case on.

The stability of this combination is pretty insane. It doesn't bounce or jitter in anyway. I just installed today and drove around town using surface streets, but even smacking the sides of the phone I can tell that off-road wouldn't be an issue. The phone is pretty easy to snap in and out of the mount, slightly more challenging in landscape because the release lever is then behind the phone.

The biggest negative I have w/ the QL is the lack of colors on the cases. My wife and I have the same phone and I'm considering getting her the same case but that would be a pain if both devices look identical.

Bonus points for FaceID registering and unlocking the phone from my normal driving position without me having to move my face closer to the phone. I've never used Siri, but after setting this up I did test that out and it works great.

Sounds like I have a big hard on for DMM+QL, because I do. It was an expensive buy-in ($112 for everything listed) and I had concerns that it might have short comings, but everything works great. This setup kept me from replacing the stock stereo/Entune with the Alpine Car play deck ($700+ investment).

Another advantage for me that helps to justify the cost is that I was also in the market for a solution to mount my phone to my motorcycle and getting the additional QL mounts for Moto and Bicycle will make for a pretty seamless system across all platforms.

I'm definitely looking forward to charging options, bonus points for Qi. Only suggestion on the DMM would be for the stem on the ram ball to be black.

Here are pics, if anybody has questions or wants any other pics let me know. I know I still have the mounting pegs threaded in, I took them out right after I snapped pictures and didn't feel like retaking the shots to exclude them.

Quad Lock currently has a site wide 30% off Black Friday coupon code through this weekend: QLBF18

You can paint the RAM stems black. No sanding required. It takes no time with the easy off and on due to the slick design. I change the position of mine pretty often.

Just received mine and installed it today!

If I could make a couple suggestions for the video from the perspective of a slightly non-mechanically inclined:
    • Make the warning about aligning the holes such that the nuts have sufficient room to be screwed in without trimming the clips come earlier in the video (before the hole drilling part)
    • Make an option for some sort of counter-sunk bolt with some other head on it for a tool. I was able to get all of them tightened down but they didn't grab as easily as I would have liked.
Other than these two very minor things, I really like the product. All I want now is ideas for things to mount to this other than my phone!

Thanks for the awesome product! 100% worth the money and I highly recommend it.

This is interesting, there's a big name company selling something very similar for about 3x the price.

And 3x as ugly. This is the most useful mod that you don't even know is there.

I almost bought it and randomly stumbled across this thread. So glad I did. That thing is overpriced and ugly. Initially when I was looking at it the wire cover wasn't offered. Now they have it and it's another $45! Some people are greedy.
