Has anyone tried adding a USB splitter to the data port?

It would be nice to have apple car play and access to a USB media device at the same time I ask this because the head unit does have a greyed out icon for another USB. I know the ones in the console are charging only. 2020 TRD Off road, NON-JBL unit.

Unfortunately, USB’s are hub-based, and the radio doesn’t support hubs.

@destin_meeks what about at the other side.. not the head unit.. or would that just result in 2 available ports

You might even need extensions, I don't know. You'll need compatible sockets.

I'll give a splitter a try and see what happens.. worse case I wind up with an extra splitter

I tried using a USB Y cable and an actual multiport USB hub. Neither worked. It has been mentioned that a “powered” hub might work but the only ones I have seen require an AC adapter (for wall plug).

I had the same results.. I wound up just copying a chunk of the music library to my phone.. I wonder if it's just me but I think the music is a bit better in quality when played from the USB drive as opposed to the phone.

Thanks for that.. I'll look into it.. I know the head unit changed and as far as I know there is only one USB connection at the back of the head unit. Although it looks like that was a relocation.. one to play.. and one to charge.

@tomwil Not sure if there is a difference between the JBL premium and the regular entune.. I don't have the JBL head unit. I went normal for the stereo upgrade id did.

I also posted a few days ago in that thread as well

I'll try the same test with 2 USB sources.. I think when you connect to apple car play it takes over the port completely.. just a guess

The Entune units in the Tacoma must be different than the 4Runner. I was definitely able to use a usb hub with 2 usb drives. More than 2 doesn't work though.

@replica9000 You can have two USB thumb drives for music.. What I was tying to do was have the phone tethered for apple car play and another USB thumbstick for playback. That can't be done.

tomwil - Great taste in music!

Anyone find a hack for Entune that will allow it to see more than two USB devices?

Just tried plugging in a four port unpowered, ancient USB hub into the regular data port. (2022 with 8" Radio + Nav, without JBL)

Can see two USB sticks and play music from both.
Plugging in iPhone (11 Pro Max) shows up as an iPod. CarPlay does not work, even if it's the only device on the hub.

I'd love to do a second USB port in the glovebox, but only if it can do CarPlay.
