Datsun 620 - A Budget FunMobile

Aluminum cracks and can just plain shatter in place....

Lots of folks on this site can make steel tapered blocks so a shim wont be needed as well.

 

After helping paint my aunt and uncle's house they gave me some money and told me to spend it on something nice for Daisy. So I bought some new headlights, RGB LED halo headlights. It's not something I would normally buy, but I'm glad I did. These things made me laugh out loud when I tested them in my living room for the first time, they are awesome.

For the record, I don't drive with the halos on anything but white. I don't like getting into trouble!

Without anything to update on the Datsun, I'll share some recent photos of Tommy.













I'll also give you a look into my most recent project, a bike for my brother's first year of college. I've built/restored more bicycles than I can count over the years.

















This is the starting point.









The plan is to make it a single speed mountain bike/ 26" BMX bike. U of A is all flat and my kid brother is 6'3" and still growing so I figured this would work perfectly. I chopped off everything but the rear brake and ground it down smooth.





















Hopefully in a week this guy will be up and running, I'm waiting on a front sprocket and tires right now.

Small update on the bicycle - Hopefully these aren't too off topic - I painted the frame and fork a sand color. The goal was a military Humvee type look.





The handlebars and stem were painted gloss black. I also did some wheels for my cruiser at the same time.











The tires came in today, so now I'm just waiting on the front chainring and rear sprocket. For now I have a neat scooter!





Here you can see the original wheels with a new coat of paint.

 

This won't be an update on the Datsun, but the Tacoma. I'm now home from Pinetop and starting school today but there has been a lot of work done in the past week. The first order of business was to have my front bumper and grille shell re-sprayed after they started peeling. This is the second time I've had to use my Maaco warranty for peeling paint.







While the front end was off I cleaned the truck and painted the front end black.











I also changed the spark plugs and wires for the first time since buying the truck .





Last but not least, I retrofitted some 3" FX-R projectors into my headlights.



That will have to wait for another post, I'm off to class!

I made a template to cut into the housings, it worked a treat.

I ran into a fitment issue on the passenger side with the speaker grille/deckplate mod on the airbox.







I was surprised how close the beam pattern was without any adjustment.







After some tweaking the beam pattern looked delightful.















All done! It was a lot of work but I learned some new stuff and I'm happy with the result. Cross that off the list!

 

This is the first Datsun update of the new school year. After leaving Daisy out in the open (in Phoenix) for 3 months, I was eager to see what kind of shape she was in. Other than a flat tire and sunburned panels, the truck was just as I left it. The motor cranked to life on the first try, trusty rusty. Yesterday I replaced the flat tire. Not a huge deal but it felt good to be around the little truck again. Look for more updates as the weather cools!

I absolutely love everything about this little truck. I have been searching for about three years now trying to find a 70s Toyota or Datsun pickup around here that is in semi-decent shape. I want a fixer upper but I don't want someones lost cause, and unfortunately the Datsuns have drainage issues that make them not last well in PNW rain, same with the beds of the Toyotas of that era. I want to see more Daisy though!

 

Please please tell me where the guy with datsun 620 parts is I have been searching for months with no luck I came across your project my datsun is in perfect running order but needs a lot of cosmetic work please help me everywhere I here mention of parts but no one responds to where naelathe@gmail.com email me or post a reply please

 

I feel your pain, Man! What cosmetic work does it need? Edit: For what it's worth I had an 84 720 KC 2wd

 

Side panels front bumper and a cab it was rolled and aside from the roof it survived well runs great and has had a lot of work done under the Hood

 

You need to make that into a camper
