Got all the fluids and filters swapped yesterday. Only spilled a little on the driveway. I still need to do the transmission too. That might get done in the yard because I'm sure it will be messy. My air filter and cabin filter looked like shit, they were both full of bugs and debris.

I'll probably ditch one of the overload springs and put the AAL in. I have a LOT of weight in the back with the bumper/tire/two full jerry cans/hi-lift.

Heck yeah man, thats a lot of weight.

How much lift is the OME AAL supposed to provide?

Why get rid of an overload spring meant to deal with extra weight when you have a ton of weight?

I have seen first hand a set of Dakar's with an overload removed and the AAL added and it gets similar height to mine with the normal Dakar with no AAL but would assume that you'd get more sag once you start piling on the weight with minus the overload + the AAL than you would with that overload in. Am I incorrect in this thinking?

Your first question was logical, logic is usually right. Your second question is based on an assumption so I don't know if your thinking is incorrect or not. Let's assume that Dave has researched this and there's a reason for him doing it this way. Based on that starting assumption, I would guess that the AAL would do 2 things, either together or seperatly, better/different then the overload leaf: 1. provide more lift 2. provide more weight carrying capabilty. Its also conceivable to think that the leaf pack itself will be more flexible without the overload in but by adding the aal, he can recoop some, most of or more of the weight capacity back while maintaining or slightly raising ride height.

Oooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrr he has no clue what he's doing and you have just shown him the light.

Stay tuned to find out what happens next!!

So Dakars have two overload leaves, which is exactly one too many. Overload leaves also do precisely nothing for static weight, because they aren't used until the leaf is in negative arch. By removing one overload and adding the AAL to the pack, you gain a bit of height, higher static load capacity, and the entire pack flexes better. I'm also adding leaf isolaters to the end of all of the long leaves and poly bushings to prevent squeak.
