I had local Meineke install Daystar spacer kit, mgr said 2.2 hrs labor I said okay and dropped it off at 8am this morning, he said it would be done by noon.
At 2:00 I called and owner said guy was having trouble with it and I didnt get truck till 5:00pm. I live 6.5 miles from shop and by the time I got home I heard rattling under front drivers side.

Pulled into drive crawled under neath and it looked like a grease bomb had gone off behind the drivers side wheel.
Took truck back to the shop and owner said "Oh yeah when you change the drive angles of the cv joints they will blow"

I said you may be right but I have run 2" spacers on many Tacoma's and never had a problem.

Is it CV boot grease or front diff fluid? Former is black and sticky, latter is clearer and stinky.

The "mechanic" either tore the CV boot or pulled the whole shaft out of the diff trying to get the spacer in. I'd be pretty unhappy - but not surprised from a Meineke shop.

Good luck getting them to fix it - if you used a credit card dispute the charge, that usually gets their attention.

Its thick grease, my brother said he bet the mechanic pulled too hard on the tripod when trying to get the spacer with extenders into place

I just wanted to get folks opinion on the spacer kits and the possible causes. My thought process was that since the shop manager stated if anything changes the cv joint angle it will damage it then
    A) Why would he put it on
    B) How could they (Daystar) sell them
    C) If that were the case wouldnt even 5100's alone clicked up to 2" cause the same issues?

I wheel this truck on the property behind the house but 90% of its use is running service calls all over the state and into the mountains.

Mechanic was sloppy and tore the cv boot. The CV angles will not be that extreme with only a 2" lift. He shouldn't have even needed to undo the balljoint on the bottom, so no pickle fork would have been used. My guess is he undid the bottom shock mount, and tore the CV boot putting it back in.

That was my first thought. That's why it took so long.
