How melted do they have to be? Is there a spec like the 10mm frame hole deal? On my 06, the lenses are just very very slightly bubbled. It doesn't affect light output, but they are just starting to fog on the edges of the headlight. They have the light diffusers, so they are definitely the original style. It would be cool if I could get new lights for free.

They would be eligible, however unfortunately the extended warranty ended on 11/30/2015, or 5 years/70k miles from date-of-first-use...

At the time, I tried to get the dealer to give me sport dark bezel headlights in place of my dark silver...it was a no go by the dealer...the service rep had a reluctant attitude to be doing the TSB in the first place, and did not allow an option to select the color ( followed the TSB description and procedures to the T).

It's amazing..Toyota F's up something that's not safety related and the Service managers are used as first line interference to deter the job...you'd think he would want to do it since the dealer is going to get reimbursed for the labor and part by Toyota.

Can't really blame the shop for not wanting to put the sport lamps on a non sport truck, over 1k debited to the dealer in a audit would suck and could cause additional audits

The updated headlight assemblies were installed Friday with the correct units (glass prismatic diffuser). Kinda nice, the last set were about due for cleaning so I'll take a free set of headlights any day of the week.

Appreciate all the help - Mike

Mine started burning the lenses very recently. Way past the TSB dates unfortunately...

Maybe some day when I feel like I have extra money I'll buy new lights.

if you give Toyota corporate hell, they'll probably throw a little money at you to get you to stop calling. :anonymous: got $700 from them in your same situation.

Maybe I'll call them. I don't even care about labor--I can swap lights no problem. But, I don't want to spend $400+ on the lights.

I, too, am outside the warranty period on my 2011 Tacoma. Both housings are melted pretty good, and have been so for a while. That's on me for never taking initiative by bringing it in. F.

I suppose a phone call or email to a local dealership won't hurt?

As Some states (+ Canada?) ? require DTL it is a safety issue and "might" cause a reject at inspection if the brightness of the now damaged lens light is too dim. Perhaps Toyota did the TSB for this reason - undue $ to customers and reputation/goodwill. I'd call and mention issues with Inspection and cross my fingers.........

If memory serves me correct it was never a TSB nor a recall. What they call a "service campaign" with a designated start and stop date.
