Well, like I said, it's not a "give-me-a-new-truck!" issue, it's a "this-better-not-hurt-my-resale-value" issue. Took it down to the dealership on Saturday morning and had them check it out.

I had to park the truck just right, with the morning sun shining right on the side of the truck. Several different people, from Body Shop tech to Fleet Manager, all acknowledged that they could see it, and were perplexed by it . A Finance person ran a check and reported no record of repairs from factory to dealership lot. The Fleet Manager did a paint thickness test and found no significant difference all around the truck.

Then a body shop tech mentioned it could just be the way it's painted at the factory; as in, sprayed from one direction from the front of the truck through the front door, then sprayed a different direction from the back to the rear door.

Important --> Overall, they all confirmed it wouldn't be an issue and would not affect value in the future. But the Fleet manager still wanted me to drive away satisfied. So before I left, he gave me a "due bill" for a free full-detail of the truck with no expiration date.

I also asked if I could have access to the new TRD Pro Tacoma grill and rims when they came out. He said to come see him when I was ready to buy them.

    I'm satisfied.

Love how people on here are making excuses on different shade of color...its the angle or the parking lot seriously that dumb, its been repainted no doubt about that there is no excuse to it. I worked at Toyota when I was 19 and they sent trucks to the body shop all the time and dont have to disclose it under a certain amount of damage

Right, and I even mentioned that to the Finance person; she said there was absolutely no record of repairs, even the stuff she normally wouldn't have to disclose.

Btw, cool shot of your truck in the snow [IMG]

Wow. Satisfied is good. Congrats on the good news. And good luck on the grill and rims when they come out!

BS. It is not repainted, pain thickness would have told you right away. You can't even measure pearl color with a spectro because it reads a different value everytime you measure it ..why? Because the light gets reflected by the pearl particles at different angles and causes the color to look different, lighter and darker which causes the delta E to go way off (trust me I work with colors)

Again, check the MGM thread, every 12+ truck has it on the same door if picture was taken from and angle in direct sun light.

Is it good, no! Did it come from the factory like that, yes!

I would require them to either repaint the entire truck to match or give me a new truck. That paint is way off!

I bought my first gen and the door was just like that. Only in certain light. I brought it to an auto body shop to repaint it. $830 and 4 months later it looks better but not perfect. Now the paint is bubbling in certain areas. Whole thing is stressful when you work so hard to fix something. Its always a 2 steps forward, 1 step back isshe for me.

I dont see how it wont affect its value. Sounds like a bs lie honestly. If you do decide to sell it in 2+ years do you think they will remember they said that? Whoever told you that wont work there anymore and even if you get it in writing, they will ignore it later. A free detail costs them next to nothing thats why they are happy to give you it. I say go to the best autobody paint place around, get a quote and save it. Call toyota corporate and file a dispute with pictures. You spent good money on a truck with a micky mouse paintjob.

For what it's worth the TRD Pro wheels are just the T|X / FJ TT wheels. They aren't the easiest to get ahold of, but they've been out for years. See my sig picture.

I was in the same boat, wondering how it would affect the value. But this is the third vehicle I've gotten from this dealership. Every time I trade a car in they check the mileage, tire condition, turn the engine over, do a walk-around, do the paint thickness test, then give me a value. The paint thickness test is what had me worried. But they confirmed there was no significant difference all around the vehicle; plus I had to park the truck just right for them to see the difference in color. So I'm not worried about them devaluing my truck b/c of something I had make an effort in pointing out to them. I'll just come in at night next time .

A full detail may cost them next to nothing, but it would normally cost me something. So a free one is still great in my book.

I appreciate your vigor in getting me what I deserve, lol :humble:! But to put it simply, I'm over it. I got what I wanted, it's not worth my time to pursue this any further.

I know what they are, I think they're sexy rims, and I agree they aren't too easy to get; which is why I was trying to create an avenue for a future purchase at the dealership. ;)

I wouldn't let the dealer pay me to detail my truck expect free swirl marks installed.

Unless it's a million dollars...I'd let them make pretty swirl marks if they paid me a million dollars...or even $31,000.

Do you honestly think I'd let them get away with swirl marks? Come on~ :dancingbacon: (<-- I just like bacon)

My point was dealer car washes are terrible. I always decline a complimentary one as in my experience and many on this forum they leave the clear coat worse than before they got to it
