Is that a common or existing configuration?

I have never gotten a solid answer as to why Toyota never offered this configuration. I even asked a Toyota rep at a public event once and he was stumped. I am guessing the DCLB are more geared towards family types, and people prefer manuals in the shorter wheelbase for off-road use. That is my utter speculation. It wouldn't be hard for Toyota to offer it up.

The Manual transmission is being replaced by a brand new one in the 3rd gen.
Wish they would offer it in the DCLB. I think they would sell quite a few of them.

The lead engineer also said the only thing carried over from the 2nd to 3rd gen is a belt buckle....... Probably the same 6-speed trans with different bolt location to fit the 3.5L. Toyota is pinching pennies to maximize profits, making a new manual transmission that only caters to a small group of buyers doesn't seem very "cost effective" to me.

I am pretty sure it is on the record that the new 6 speed manual is actually new, not carry over. Toyota sells a lot of manual transmission Tacomas.

It's not like huge R&D costs would be needed to offer it. Most of the parts are there. I see a lot of people complaining about the lack of availability for it.

Sure it's way more than 100 people. Especially now that they are offering a TRD Offroad DCLB.

A lot of people get the automatic in order to get the 6 foot box. If they offered the 6 foot box and a manual transmission option, it would sell well enough to justify it.

You can get a manual in the ACLB though if you want a full box. Even if they shipped 5% of DCLB's with manual it would sell.

Dumping the reg cab and 5 luggers all together probably contributed to being able to offer a simple locking rear diff to an already existing variant. Simple enough I think.

People are so desperate to buy a Tacoma that they will take any combination the marketing people tell them to buy.
