The Tacoma generally has better tech in my opinion. I’ve had both a Tacoma and a 4Runner this year. Now I just have the 4Runner. The Tacoma has a bigger and clearer head unit screen. I miss being able to monitor tire pressure in the gauge cluster in my 4Runner like I could in my Tacoma. My 2017 4Runner has limited options to monitor mpg compared to the Tacoma where I could track tank and trip and average mpg easily. I have to manually reset each time on my 4Runner. Not a huge deal but not as flexible or useful. The 4Runner seats and steering wheel are much more adjustable so there are trade offs as always. If you’re buying for the tech primarily, there are better options. I’m in the “simple is better” camp these days so I’m happy.

OP wanted a 4Runner all along :) the thought of maybe building a family in the future was a good ploy... been there.

We bought a much larger house and were planning to do some renovations and whatnot and I hadn't had a truck in several years. Next thing you know I had justified spending nearly $40k on a new truck.

    enjoy the new rig!!

I have a gray 5th gen TRD offroad 4runner and 3rd gen Tacoma. I love both of them however the 4runner has a more comfortable back seat with more room for a car seat. I also prefer the powertrain in the 4runner to the Tacoma. The back seats also recline a little which is super nice compared to sitting in the back of the Tacoma. I would have a really hard time picking between the two. I like the truck bed of the Tacoma but like most everything else about the 4runner more. The Tacoma has a more updated interior and amenities but feels a little cheaper to me.

It depends on if you need a truck or a grocery getter.

OP - congrats on the new vehicle. You know, panties drop faster for Tacoma than 4R's, so that may help with the family thing

Yeah the tech is a little lacking in my 2018 TRD Premium, but it has enough for me. I wish dual climate control was possible and keyless start without needing to buy the limited.

I have no problem getting a Britax car seat in the middle of the back seat. On the sides, it's super tight and probably ok for a baby. But not a 2 year old. Their legs would be right up against the back of the front seats.

Yeah they handed me this weird thing that had what looked like a key. And I was like what is this? And he said it’s the key to start the 4Runner and I was like... people still use these? :goingcrazy:
