There will never be a factory DCLB Manual unless manual transmissions make up more than 8% of the car market.

The auto trans are tougher and more economical than the manuals (in the 2nd gens at least). Only reason I would prefer a manual transmission is the ability to push start or for maintaining a gear on slick inclines so you don't drop a gear and spin out. That's not enough of a selling point for me.

Car companies are already struggling to meet CAFE standards especially in their trucks and SUVs. If the MT gets lower fuel mileage than the AT, they are going to only grudgingly offer them, and not make more than they absolutely have to. For every one they make, they have to force an ill-fitting tonneau cover on somebody to make up for the drop in mileage.

I prefer the manual because it doesn't feel like it has a 1.0L 3 cylinder Geo Metro motor in it like that auto does.

Manual is better for me, hands down, so i signed it. I really dislike automatics in snow/ice. I have way more control and better MPG when driving manual. I hate automatics and i am pissed that the gen1 4doors were only auto. I signed it. Perhaps i will start a petition for Mr Akio Toyoda asking that the gen4s be a much smaller body, higher clearance with less electronics and less plastic parts... non electric gear box selector too... and no pesky chip keys...cab-on-chassis and vinyl floor option...I doubt he would read those petitions either.

I know I am supposed to praise Europeans for having better trained drivers and blame my lack of tranny options on lazy Americans who like to txt, eat fast food, and put on makeup while driving their excessively large trucks that rarely leave the mall parking lot, and all the other obligatory jabs when debating transmissions, but i am very tired and i want to go to bed.

The countries I drive in do have better trained drivers & the law enforcement will be all over your ass if caught doing what most Americans do daily.(talking on cell, eating-drinking,driving without lights on, left lane driving without passing, signaling lane changes, aggressive driving).

I don't expect there to be a fiery, bloody revolution at Toyota HQ, but it doesn't hurt does it? We got people talking about a DCLB manual tranny on a Tacoma forum that is no doubt checked out by Toyota from time to time. Don't sign it if you don't want to.

I signed it.... :) this is my first automatic in 20 years, I would prefer it to be a manual.

I would have to test drive it though. I owned a manual Dodge ram 1500 for about 6 months, it was like driving a school bus.

    My sentiments, exactly.

... so there's two of you now? You have shaken Toyota Corporation down to their very foundations. Yup, I can feel the tremors from here.

You are a rebel for not signing. A true wild child. Thanks for your concern over something you said you don't care about though. I am beyond impressed!

Push your foot down a little harder and it won't. It's a big difference when you are just a little more aggressive with the throttle.

My expectations are low. It's just real weird that something you don't care about bothers you so much.

and actually, I think it's more than a handful. Only a handful of people are actually on Tacoma forums talking about their trucks if you look at all the Tacoma owners out there. I spoke with the sales manager at my local Toyota dealer and he said he gets requests for DCLB + manual all the time, but please, keep posting about something you don't care about.

I signed a petition to bring the New Civic Type R to Murica and they actually decided do it... Not sure there would be enough people&sales to warrant toyota to make a dclbmanny though...

I know the feeling. This is the first auto (aside from work trucks) i owned in a long time. The thing that kept me from buying a taco was the fact that the 4door was not made in a manual (gen1s) i eventually gave in and am stuck with the auto until i do . I fear what will be available in the future because both cars and trucks are really going in a direction that does not match my needs. Even when the paddle shifters are added to an auto i really feel the loss of a clutch and proper gear selector compromises my feedback and control. But maybe they will improve in the years to come.
