Update on my rear window seal/run as they call it. Replaced at 1800 miles, doing the same thing at 5k check. I looked at the new Tacos on the lot, same thing, gaping of the seal on the rear driver's side window. Defective mold? Dealership said they will replace it again and have a special water seal guy do it, whatever.

Same with mine, replaced the first one at 1k miles, sitting at 11k now waiting for another one.

They told me they can replace mine, but have had the same issue. They still don't have it fixed yet.

I had the same problem which I became aware of from Tacoma World. One dealership gave me the "that's normal" BS as a $42K Tacoma in the showroom had the same issue with the molding. Another dealership with a GREAT tech looked at it and said "not right!" They ordered me a new one and he replaced it and it fits as it should. All that was 6 months and 5K miles ago...no issues with the seal since. Even though I'm in a warm weather climate I worried about water standing in the gap and freezing.

Same problem with mine. Lot of water can get in there. Lot of rust later.

Maybe if you take the coins out, it would be fixed? LOL jk! In all seriousness, that's horrible quality control.

Mine sit flush. However, has anyone noticed a slight bow in the plastic molding that meets up with the front windshield at the bottom?

Rear passenger window run/seal number three! This one was gapped from the day they installed it and the specialist they had come in to install it just put in some black adhesive that now does not stick to the window run! Looks worse, collects water and debris!

That sucks! I posted about this in a previous thread. Right after I got my 3 gen (late 12/15), I read about this issue on TW. I went out to the garage and checked my seals. The rear door passenger side fit flush, however the driver's side rear door seal bulged out. I took it to a LARGE dealership in a major city near me (Montgomery, AL). The female service writer gave me the Toyota BS line.."that's normal." Then on a whim I stopped by a smaller dealership also in my area (Enterprise, AL). Two service writers (one male/one female) looked at at and said..."that's not right." They called over a certified tech who simply told them to order a new seal. He installed it when it came in and it fit flush just like the other side. I do have tinted windows but they were done by a Toyota distributor (SET) however don't think they were the cause...just "sh!tty" assembly. JMO, but I think putting adhesive on an outside seal would cause it to dry out and crack quicker than normal.

I had one rear window molding with a ridiculous gap. When I brought it in to the dealer their first question was, " Do you go through high pressure car washes?" I said "no, but how would that permanently change the shape of a rubber seal? It may blow the seal off but then we'd be able to pop it back into place right?" My experience with dealers seems to always be "blame the costumer first". They finally agreed to replace the seal but said it's not a warranty issue, but we will replace it as a one time customer courtesy! Really? so if it happens again they will not replace another one? Fv$# these people, I'm so sick of this sh!t.

For what it's worth, I have a 2017 and my seals sit perfect. Maybe they fixed it? That would drive me insane.

Same here, three sets later, I gave up. It is a defect that Toyota will not acknowledge. Go to a dealership and see the same thing on news Tacoma's.

I had the part ordered and they said they put it on, which i doubt. They gave it back to me looking the same. Really annoyed.

Four hours!! Dealer replaced my driver's side (passenger side fit fine-read post #70). The tech replaced it while I waited-30 minutes and the problem was solved. Plus I had great popcorn in the customer waiting room! Enterprise (AL) Toyota--best service techs around--especially John Bottoms a Certified Tech who specializes in Tundras and Tacomas. If he can't fix it...it can't be fixed!!!

Mine looked good initially, but then they start to gap. Toyota needs to realize the rear window runs/seals are defective.

Yes. Four hours. Also because they are the only Toyota on island getting an appointment is horrendous. Probably 2 months average. Plan those free oil changes accordingly was a pain
