Looking at getting a set of C2's to run on ditch brackets. I think I'd like to wire them such that the actual lights turn on with highbeams, but otherwise the backlights run when engine's on. I'd like a switch in the cab that acts as a killswitch so they won't turn on I flick on the highbeams, but still maintain the backlight while highbeams are on (without C2s kicking on). How hard would it be to wire this up, and would I be wise to get the wiring harness or skip that for this setup?

Bonus points if I can retain the ability to flick the C2's on independently of the highbeams somehow.

    Edit:
Another question added a ways down, regarding installation

2 relays, one 4 pin, one 5 pin.
Amber is ON at vehicle ON via fused IGN source.
High Beam fuse tap via add-a-fuse is shared to relays at pin 86.
When vehicle ON , ambers ON.
When switch ON, circuit is on standby input of high beams. Amber still ON.
At high beams ON, Amber is OFF via 30 to 87 (insulated) and ground via switch. White is ON.

The SSC2's are controlled internally so that when the primary beam is on, the backlight turns off. That might help simplify this?

features a three-way switch to toggle between backlight, off, and main beam.

-"Wiring Connect the red wire to positive supply, and black wire to negative or common ground. Tap the blue wire for the backlight to your desired vehicle function. If you are using the pigtail, the yellow wire won’t be used. Please note: This auxiliary lamp draws high current, and requires adequately-sized wiring for safe operation. If you are not using a Diode Dynamics wire harness, use wire sized 16 AWG or larger for main power and ground. Use wire sized 18 AWG or larger for the backlight (blue wire on the pigtail). Please be mindful of current ratings and wire size, especially if splitting power signals to multiple pods, or using switches."-

Very helpful replies, I think I've got a good grasp on how to go about it now. Thanks folks!

@Diode Dynamics can you make sure I didn't butcher the explanation too much? The backlight on the SSC2's do turn off when the primary beam is on, correct? @caribe makaira that might help by eliminating a relay? I have to admit to not staring at your drawing yet

If you read the DD instructions it shows a SPDT switch. The backlight doesn't have an auto feature hence the dual relay. Also the OP requested the function to be OFF, ON only with High beam and not loose the backlight.o_O:D

Just to be sure, I wouldn't need the backlights on while the actual light is on. I'd like to have the actual light tie into the high beam (hi's on, C2s on, backlight off / hi's off, c2s off, BL on), but also have the ability to cut the C2s (hi's on, c2s off, BL on / hi's off, C2s off, BL on). I think the wiring image provided in the first reply suits that need. The bonus points would be for the ability to also run (Hi's off, C2s on, BL off) without losing the previous two.

The C2's do not allow both LED's ON at same time. That is why the seller provides a harness with a SPDT switch.

    Imma murder you. :bananadead:

I think it's been handled here, but you can give constant power to both the backlight as well as the main beam and ONLY the main beam will be on. The SSC2 has internal logic to not allow them both to be on. If you had constant power to the backlight that was tied to ignition for example, and then only had the trigger for the main beam to be your high beams that would work just fine.

Right, if the C2s are on, BLs should and would be off. Its just a matter of controlling when the C2s light up.
    Good deal

Has anyone installed these with the DD wiring harness? I'm finding there's not enough room behind the pod to run the harness wire, notably when the hood is open (actually tore the rubber right at the connection to the plug on one side). Even with the non-harness plug, feels very tight for space. I've got the bracket installed as far forward as I can get it

Also, not that it’s any help here, but how are you wiring them for ditch lights? Like what color(s) did you choose, and how are you doing the backlight? Just curious.

Ask and ye shall receive! (pics incoming)

Went with the white driving / amber backlight, the wiring harness from DD does all the control behind the scenes except for the on-off-on switch it has that you toggle. Might change the lens up depending on how well it meets my needs.
