Well I found every thing I needed to know. Started the truck after a week of sitting. A little weak but nothing unusual for sitting. Small white/blue plume from the tail pipe this time. So I pull the dip stick and wouldn't you know it's low on oil.
So while the engine was cold I did the tea kettle test. Basically take the fill cap and rest it on the opening and the blow-by was enough to make it bobble up and down. I placed my hand over it and I could feel it being pushed up. So after 196k miles I can say she is definitely done for.

So my predicament. Do I just sell it or some how get rid of it or to rebuild a junk yard long block?
If I build it I think a turbo build may happen as Cummins has not gotten approval from Texas to sell the 2.8 ISF as a replacement just yet.

Just looking for opinions and options. I would like to keep the truck as a beater/toy.

Are you sure your pcv valve isn't just clogged or stuck closed?

110% she's new and has been checked.
Crank case pressure us up for sure. Valve cover coming off tomorrow for inspection. Rear main seal also starting to leak now. Very small seep but it's there.

I really want a 2.8ISF Cummins! Would be a perfect pairing for the Tacoma. Torque and horsepower within the safe range for the A340E and the weight is just right. Local laws may get bypassed :oldglory:

That 2.8 Cummins crate engine is sweet for sure but isn't it estimated to be like $9,000?

Yes they are expensive but so is another rebuilt 2TR-FE.
Used engine locally is around 2200 - 2600.
The parts then need to overhaul the engine just make the price climb fast.

For now the engine is just going to sit until I can find my solution.

Do you have a manual or auto? I believe the 1KD and 2KD diesels from the 7th gen hiluxes bolt right up to the r155 thats behind the 2tr-fe.

If it still runs smooth, has good power, doesn't burn excessive oil. I'd keep driving it. It might go another 200k smokey miles.
You could do a compression test on it if you really want to know. Also could swap in a suped up vw tdi motor, Its been done in older Toyota pickups

How do you know this? And what about engine mounts, ECU, gauges and all that jazz?

I've heard this too. Bellhousing and engine mounts are a match. Gauges and wiring will require some creativity though

How? Get the bellhousing and flywheel from the diesel or does the 2trfe bellhousing and flywheel fit the Diesel engine?
I looked at the hilux interior and it appears that you could swap the whole gauge cluster and ECU into the Tacoma pretty much plug and play. Too bad that would never be legal here in CA but with a performance chip those little diesels would sure be great in place of the 2trfe.
