....so I took my taco off the pavement a couple days ago and I was trying to go up a steep hill, more than what the truck could measure but not by much, the engine started knocking, then smoke started coming out the exhaust and then it died...my front tires were almost at the top.
I’m guessing this is oil related but would like to hear your guy’s thoughts which I know you all will be happy to express.

The truck started back up but kept spitting smoke for a little bit, I decided to try again anyway and this is what happened...

This sounds like a known oil issue with some third gens. Has to do with the oil not draining quick enough while driving on an incline.

Screw it, I’ll be the first to say it: Toyota says this normal... :spy:

I was watching a guy climb up hells gate (maybe hells revenge?) at MOAB and he was burning a lot of oil on one of the last inclines

The only recalls Toyota does are the cheap ones like ac fan motor.

Or, the expensive ones when they get sued like complete frame replacements.

If enough peeps start blowing engines and they can pin it on the company it’s gonna get real expensive real quick...

^I can't see a recall as likely. Like Grossmotto said, Toyota won't do a recall until it's backed into a corner by hungry lawyers, or it's really cheap to fix. It'd cost a lot of money to redesign and they don't want to spend that, especially with the 4th gen coming in and the 3rd gen going out.

Is there any known fixes for this issue, whether it be factory or aftermarket? Would think with this engine known for doing this for several years now, there must've been somebody who's designed a fix by now.
Where is all the oil pooling up at? Seems just adding a drain from there back down to the pan would help.

I’ve been up some pretty steep inclines and knock on wood mine’s been perfectly fine till now. I’ll be keeping a close eye on his one though...

Toyota won't do anything about it because you are putting the truck at angles not recommended by Toyota. This is something the aftermarket will probably have to come up with a fix for.

There won’t be a recall, not many owners are climbing steep hills. Plus, they would deny a warranty if you’re off road.

Yes, stupid as shit because it says Off Road on the side of the truck. Hell, even says Racing Development.

How steep of an angle are we talking before the issues? Anybody know?

Like Off Road steep, for an extended period of time, several minutes. I’ve yet to see the issue on regular pavement.

We should sue them for false advertising since they deny the warrany for racing or offroading

You get some pretty steep hills on pavement in places. Hell the section of Jersey I’m originally from has some that will make you think twice about in winter.
