Man that sucks! You weren't doing anything wrong, if you have enough traction to climb it the engine should be able to handle it.

This right here. If they want to play stupid freaking games regarding warranty and play dumb, you do the same to them.. respond back in kind. It's not right, and we shouldn't have to do it, but we paid a lot of money for our trucks so they should too for their oversight or stupidity.

I agree with you, we pay big bucks for these trucks and it should not be a problem taking it to the dealer. The engine should just not do this. Plenty of hills where I live. I Donot feel he abused the truck doing what he was doing

Why didn’t they just name it “TRD abuse” since apparently abuse is synonymous with off road .

The truck seems fine now btw!
I was able to make the climb the next time around. Should I have tried it again??? Maybe not but what the hell... yolo... I was driving a little faster the second time and the truck continued to blow smoke for about 15 min just not as much

    This!

Toyota has really become a mediocre brand since my 1st and even 2nd Gens, initial quality is laughably bad and the mini-van engine mated to a malfunctioning trans among other complaints I'm pretty disappointed in them. It sucks you have to buy a $90K Land Cruiser or a $60k+ Lexus to get Toyota Quality anymore.

Send your video to Toyota and see what they say? Mention that several others have stated they had the same problem.

Keep in kind minivans have a higher payload than our trucks with the same 3.5L engine.

You don't buy a truck for its fucking fenders!
    2.5" lift w/35's
I think the truck has an inclinometer on it. The ECU may have logged an event where the truck was at an extreme angle. Not sure how toyota ECUs are setup, this is just speculation, but the computer does keep a lot of historical data.

The first gen wasn't that great either

    The frames rusted out
The rear axles are prone to rusting out
Unless you bought an early SR5 or Limited the seats were just crap
    The dashes rattled
Rear rear brake drum bell cranks were prone to seizing up
The lower ball joints are weak
    The front brakes are weak
The clear coat on certain finishes was prone to peeling off

Still it was a better truck than what Ford and GM were offering and the same is true today with the 3rd gen.
