Truck was slow starting this AM and then after stopping at gas station, it refused to turn over. Had to walk to Advance Auto Parts. Nothing listed for 2017 so had to size up OEM one and buy replacement. Would not think a vehicle one year old and with 10,000 miles would have a bad battery. No patience or time to drive 80 miles to get a cheap warranty replacement at dealership that would crap out next year. Also noticed OEM battery had but 582 CCA. What junk!

Do you live in an area with either extreme heat/cold during respective seasons? Both of those big swings make a battery deteriorate faster than normal. There is also a chance that you were unlucky and had a battery just go bad. It happens. You can submit your receipt to Toyota corporate with a warranty claim and see if they will honor it for reimbursement.

You may want to consider looking at the Group Buy forum, there is/was a buy for a good brand.

If you are still under 36k miles and have your receipt then you can mail it to Toyota for a reimbursement, odd that Advanced Auto does not have any 24F Batteries in stock.

Yeah the stock battery is junk. Running my fridge for a day in 80 degree temps drops the battery to about 10-11 volts. Previously with my other tacoma's and larger aftermarket AGMs I could run 2-3 days without recharging on one battery.

Well.... electronic content up = more draw, engine compartment extra space more utilized = more heat, and Tacomas are still running the same battery from many years ago (if not in a Tacoma, it's in other Toyotas). AGM is meant for deep cycle, so your recharging statement makes sense. For the typical customer, a standard lead acid battery is just fine. Anyone running extreme accessories shouldn't expect great life out of a stock battery.

OP, sucks you had to replace it at such low mileage, but it's a known problem across all manufacturers and Toyota is likely working on a solution. Hopefully they honor your warranty replacement and get you back to loving everything about your Taco.

They had them, but no listing for a 2017 Tacoma in their computer. Does anyone know where to send receipt? I would expect their answer to be that I should have gone to the dealer. A little difficult when you are stuck on the side of the road.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Did you buy the AGM, gold or silver battery?

    10k miles is pretty poor.

I was surprised when my battery died around 30k on my Tundra.

Bought the Auto Craft Gold for $160. Comes with a three year warranty and has 700 CCA.

I carry those portable jumpers in my cars just for this reason. Sucks when it happens and it's always when it's most inconvenient. Went through a few in my old 07. Finally ended up with an Optima red top and it was pretty rock solid.

It has the address right in the warranty section in the Owners Manual and explains that they will reimburse you for an emergency repair.

Nice, they may be the best battery on the market. The reviews everywhere are all 4 and 5 stars.

It’s the only electrical mod I’ve done to my truck, if you can call it that.

We have another car that needed a battery, so I put my stock battery in the car and upgraded to the Odyssey in my Tacoma.

Toyota batteries are made by Johnson Controls, so are tons of other batteries sold under numerous brands.

The OEM or what they sell at the service department at the dealership? My wife’s battery on her 2014 4Runner bit it this morning and I was doing some research about batteries before going out to get one. The original battery was slower to turn over the past couple of weeks. Put it on a trickle charger but would only take it up to 75%. Wouldn’t start this morning. She jumped it with a NOCO GB150 and it started right up but would not start again when shut down. I blame myself. I never checked the water levels in the individual cells and they were low. It would have probably lasted longer with some maintenance. Her OEM is a Panasonic made in Japan.

Vehicles produced in Japan (4Runner) do not use Johnson Controls. They may, however, still supply the brand name the dealer uses as OE Service replacement.
