Went to leave to work this morning and got a “check brake system” warning with a check engine and red brake light display. Brake is rock solid and can’t be depressed. Aux power works but starting the truck just gives rapid loud clicks and dimming dash lights.

This just sound like a dead battery? Still on OEM that’s almost turning 3 years.

Sounds like the brake system failed have it towed to the dealer .a battery wouldn’t cause the brake pedal to feel rock hard .

Doesn't sound like brakes. It sounds like time for a new battery. Clicking sound is the solenoid firing without enough amps to engage the starter. Dim lights are an indication of low amps. 3 years about average. Most importantly is that it is hot as balls and this is the time of year that batteries fail. Your power brake system doesn't work when your truck isn't running. The pedal should be hard.

Guy over the phone from dealership said he never heard of that happening before the way I described and also recommended to see if a new battery remedies it. Coworker is giving me a ride home later and is going to see if we can jump it. Hoping for new battery because I have zero time to get a brick over to the dealership.

Once you get it running, you should be fine. One thing I would suggest is to make sure where ever you are going has a battery in stock. Inventory is typically low this time of year and with the nonsense going on, everything seems to be on back order these days.

Hope it's just a battery, that would be my first start.

See if it starts with a jump start. That’s what I did and drove it to the dealership. They gave me a new free Toyota battery under warranty. Now that I am out of warranty, I will get a quality battery on my own dime next time I need one.

Update, AAA jumped it. Batteries toast. Good news for the most part since it’s not a repair issue.

Truck wasn't running so there's no boost on the brakes. Good ole fashioned dead battery.

Good to hear …was thinking it was a manual it has a different brake setup . You can push on the brake a few times and it will lose pressure and go to the floor .

    why Optima?

    waste of money IMO
Optima's last 3yrs these days, and are double the $ or more

pure crap, by experience, I was sold by the marketing and never again

Can't speak to Oddysey, but what are you looking to gain with the more expensive battery?

based on what? One internet weber's opinion from 3 years ago? I've had a yellow top since 2012 and going strong. Let's see the beef.

your guys truck sure do fail in a weird way. I'll assume a dead battery but have no idea. I think I'm done buying cars from 2016 and on, who wants this kind of noise?

When my battery bit it at 2.5 years back at Christmas time, it worked great with no signs of weakness and then, bam, in the afternoon, it was dead. Did exactly what the OP's did - clickety click click and hard pedal. Pop in a new battery and back on the road. And at this point there's no real reason to take it to the dealer because the pro-rating will hardly cover any of the battery and you'll get a much better one on your own.

Perhaps you have one of the older ones that last.
I had a yellow top then a red top, both failed well before how long the OEM lasted on another vehicle

2 batteries, one lasted 4 years, then another <3 years - warranty worth nothing as well. Called them for the <3 year one, and they said they only cover "manufacturer defect", and claimed I must have "abused" my battery, covered nothing. Warranty was useless. Vehicle had same use on my OEM that lasted 10yrs.

Fool me once, shame on them, fool me twice shame on me, 3x - well that ain't going to happen

Plenty of reviews online suggesting the same, not just me, or one person as you put it

OP - if you go Optima, hope your experience is better than mine, and more like 6 gearT444E's positive experience
