i noticed sometime last year that there's a few dead pixels on the radio screen. i'm figuring toyota would probably just replace the headunit if i bitched loud enough, although i'm not sure what their threshold is for dead pixels, like with computer monitors it's so many dead pixels is a certain area.

it's not really bothering me, but i figure that since i have a bumper to bumper warranty that i might as well use it and get this swapped while I can. if it gets worse in the future i'm going to be kicking myself for not getting it swapped.

anyone else have dead pixels on the screen and get it replaced? is it even worth the hassle of having some random tech take the dash apart to swap it out?

I am going to take a better look at mine . I would say keep an eye on it and wait till closer end of warranty then have them fix it .

If it were mine, I would take it in and asked to have it replaced. Be interesting to see what they say. GL

If you noticed it without purposefully looking for dead pixels, then to me that’s bad enough for replacement - good luck with the dealership response. I’m not going to examine mine, if I don’t notice irregularities from normal viewing, then I’m ok with the screen as is.

the thing that sucks about it is that they aren't always dead. i guess they are dying? it's probably 75% of the time they're dead and 25% of the time they're not. it's on a section of the screen that really doesn't change much and isn't covered by another graphic. i'll have them look at my 15k service. i'm assuming they keep those units in stock and could just swap it without keeping my truck for a couple days.

Just an idea for you... I would make four .jpg files, each a pure RGB color along with white. Use color codes that only turn on Red (255,0,0), Green (0,255,0), Blue (0,0,255), and white (255,255,255). Place/upload these .jpg files one at a time onto the “custom off screen” display and then examine carefully. You will be able to determine which pixel(s) are dead or not functioning correctly by color... take pictures with you to the dealer.
