I find it very hard to believe a light would trigger this.
What type of idiotic dangerous design is this?

What you described sounds very much like a CPS failure.
Make sure to mention it at your 5000K see what they say.

My truck had this issue twice and has spent 6 weeks I'm Toyota, and resulted in 14k worth of repairs. Until Toyota finally said "lights.". Feeding back into ecu apparently

I'll head around town tomorrow and get some running time on to heat soak it. If it dies, I'll have it towed. No crying over something covered by a warranty.

You're better off to have the factory light in it anyway. So dealer doesn't have anything they can blame if it does fail again

so wait was the 14K on you then? lol

Still find it really odd a light would do this but whatever. Guess I won't be doing any sort of lighting mods unless its with a highly reputable company.
Then again I probably wouldn't touch factory components just add some spotties or floods.

I'm not going to say that some how these ballasts are back feeding or inducing some kind of interference or current, I've seen a lot of weird electrical issues in my career.

That being said I've also seen CPS sensors fails and one min the vehicle drives 10 feet and stalls, repeat and the next it can drive a few days and be fine. All I'm saying is let's try and figure it out before we start finger pointing. Seems to me more of an issue with the crank position sensor

I'll call in tomorrow and put in a request. No harm in having them look at it when it is covered. Luckily I work from home when not traveling.

I took video and pictures to relay to the techs.

If your taking it in make sure the lights are out. Other wise if they deem that a cause you may being paying for labor. Just a fair warning

According to her I'm very unreasonable, but I'm very reasonable. its just the shit she says isn't reasonable so I will not reason with her reason.

Radiated or conducted Electro Magnetic Interference from the HID power supply? Might be putting out enough noise, on the right part of the control system, to screw up the ECU.

If someone wants to pay about 250K$ we can get a truck in the lab and test that theory :)

you'd think the ECU would have some sort of shielding or something but I guess not.

If anything this would be conducted. Highly unlikely the ECU is that susceptible to radiated RFI. So many devices emit that kinda noise. Sure it's all different frequencies but there would be a bunch of failures. LEDs themselves emit RFI.

This is very intriguing however I'm not convinced.

    Whole lotta stuff
What would they shield the ECU with? Plastic, steel? A magnetic field passes through or affects both of them.

Making the objection that Toyota should have shielded their ECU is like saying Toyota should have radiation shielded the PCM encase you drive by a microwave.

Edit: And why the hell are 138 users viewing this thread?

I'm referring to the noise. You can get noise shielding.
ANd if they are this delicate that a little noise from a HID ballast can screw it up maybe it would be a good idea.
