Was needing a pickup looking at frontiers cause I knew Toyota would not discount
trucks and were more $$. Just a base access cab to haul little crap and pull my bike trailer

Called local dealer just for shits and grins told him if i bot one i'd want a prerunner
access cab with utility deduct he said good luck they aint out there

He calls me today says he got a double cab prerunner with fog lights convienence pkg
(25644) said he'd sell for 24000 +++ 26700 or so out the door, which is about all you'd ever get off the price.

I said no, he calls me TONIGHT about 6 says they are one sale away from getting
april bonus munny from toyota and said he would do whatever it takes to sell me the truck
I said yeah, right...he said I will sell you this truck for 21000 OUT THE DOOR

(that's 18600 before fees and a 5000 loss for the dealership)

I told him quit screwin around he said get your ass over here it will happen...and it did. Got BOS to prove it.

The way he explaned it they would LOSE 12000 from Toyota by not making their April number so they
gave me this taco at a loss to get there. I'd heard stories about this before, but figured it never happened. Well, it did to me tonight. This one didn't have floormats and i got him to throw them in TOO. Here is taco boy:

I'm still in shock. You cant buy a USED double cab that cheap!!
So, call me "Taco Tom" and I'm smilin my ass off. truly a deal we only dream about...but became reality tonight for me! I need another beer, a curt hitch, and some runnin boards

Thanks...I like those matte flares rather than painted. Just your base prerunner with the 2.7 and cruise (thankfully). All the truck I'll ever need. Anyone got any good recomendations for running boards?
I'm thinkin black, but 3" 4" 5"? curved? Brand? What looks good on this base model? Appreciate it.

He showed me what I think was a real cost figure on it, $23,4XX I believe
I know there isnt any mark up in em, and no rebates, that's why you'll usually pay
1000-1500 under msrp at best. You may be right, hell I could sell
to another dealer for a quick 2 grand, or 4000+ to an individual
I know one thing from shopping and looking...they can't keep these base prerunners on the lot

This one ranks right up there with the 2007 "$10,000 off any Nissan Titan on the lot"
promo I got in on. Drove that 5.6 bad boy off the lot for 15,300 and tax

But shit like this...I dont care if i need a truck or NOT...ya gotta buy it!

A truck without 4wd is like a Cadillac without air conditioning.

To each his own. I'm sure you have zero use for 4wd or you would have bought it. Enjoy the new truck. It's a nice bonus when you can feel good about the price you paid.

but 4wd won't keep you cool. I guess the takeaway from this is to start dealing at the end of the month and if they don't give a good deal wait until the end of the next month.

    Congrats and welcome Taco Tom,

It's a nice truck at a killer price. For running boards I would definitely give the factory Toyota style a look. They sit fairly high so they don't make your truck look much lower to the ground. They are functional and although they have a plastic step, the portion that bolts on your frame is strong steel. You can occasionally find them for a great deal in the for sale section of this site.

Check them out on my truck. Needless to say its not the base model but you get the idea.

    Congrats on the new truck.
Not only is April the end of the Month, it's also the End of the Quarter. Toyota offers has some good bonuses for both the dealership and dealers for moving a certain amount of vehicles.

I know a Toyota salesman personally and he confirmed that their dealership will sell below cost under the exact circumstances you outlined. It has to be at the end of the month when they are in danger of missing their quota thereby forfeiting the bonus you mentioned.

I said no way you guys are selling below cost after considering hold backs and he said we do it fairly often. Why would we not sell one for $1200-$1500 loss to get a $12000 dealership bonus?

Not only are they under a lot of pressure to make quota but they are competing with other Toyota dealerships in their region for incentives.
