I do have a question about this CRC stuff, i am helping my relative out with their 2o11 single cab Tacoma and spraying the anti corrosion spray underneath on all of the suspension parts,etc.. They bot this truck new and there is a thickish rubber undercoating everywhere underneath and they do not remember anything about it after almost 9 years.
some of it is already cracking and has rusty crusty showing under it already in spots

was this the CRC stuff applied on the frame and other parts when it was new, I think the truck came from Wisconsin or Minnesota which are cold weather states as far as i know

i will try to get some pics later today if it helps to determine if this is the CRC coating

Probably good old fashioned rubberized undercoating. The CRC coating is more of an oily / waxy coating that remains pliable. It's messy as hell, but more effective than traditional undercoating.

The problem with rubberized undercoating is that over time, it dries out and cracks - allowing moisture to creep in and become trapped - leading to corrosion. Of course if you get the Ziebart version of undercoating, they neatly "solve" this problem by requiring the re-spraying of your vehicle every year as a condition of their warranty. All that does is cover up the rust that's already started so you don't see it until it's too late.

    thanks
i am not well versed on the trouble spots on the 2nd gen frames
this undercoating seems to be worse (peeling) on the passenger side behind the front wheel area, by the cats i guess
their front skid plate is also peeling in the back in spots (crappy paint?) , this truck only has about 42k miles on it too!
it has lived on the western fringes of the rust belt on the IA/NE border so the road chemicals are somewhat 'minimal' but they are still around nevertheless

By the cats is a known trouble spot. And the heat from the cats doesn't do anything positive for rubberized undercoating either.

    thanks!
you would think the dealer that sold them this truck in '11 would have known about this!?
and recommended another corrosion preventative application

How does CRC interact with rubberized undercoating?
