lol. i have a "no soliciting" sign right above my doorbell. I sometimes answer the door, use a little sign language and point to the sign and then shut the door. No words necessary. Other times I ask them if they can read. The usual response is "I saw that but I think you'll really be interested in... <door slam>.

Edit: a favorite lately is a young guy "I am am helping my grandpa who is working in the area and he wanted to know if we could <insert unneeded maintenance here>.

Also, beware some door knockers are just trying to find out if you are home. I once did not answer the door and that resulted in a break-in while I was home. That was part of the ludicrous defense the loser had at the trial. That's all he had - I didn't answer the door. The defense attorney was trying to suggest I did not answer the door because I wanted him to break in so I could kill him and so his attacking me was self defense. I testified I was tired of answering the door to be pitched new windows or driveway or roof or jesus wants to save my soul.
Just beware they are not all sales people. (Yes, there is something worse than sales people)

A lady I worked with years ago told how she answered the door for Jehovahs Witnesses in her bikini when staying at a friend house in LA.

this is fun. so many stories. I was once in bed with a woman and answered the phone and it was a woman sales pitching. I told her we were having sex and asked her if she liked sex. SHE PLAYED ALONG. She won that one.

Many years ago I got a cold sales call and asked her to hold the phone, i would be right back. put it down, picked it up later to see she was still there. apologized and said won't be long, put it down again. 3 or 4 times and she was still there. I finally picked it up and asked her "How does it feel to have someone waste your time" She burst out laughing and we hung up.
Years later I saw an episode of Seinfeld that was similar. Might not be an original tactic.

    Stop me please!
On one of my outgoing voicemail greetings, I say "Sorry I could not get to the phone since I may be assisting other telemarketers". It was not original but I heard it somewhere and liked it. I once picked up after the caller heard the greeting and she could not stop laughing. Ruined her call...but it was not strictly sales, some appt confirmation or something like that. gotta have fun with it.

Not even just if you buy a new vehicle or even from the Dealer you got it from. My tacoma was my first brand new car and I've never gotten a phone call or letter from the dealership I got it from in Maryland or Hanover Toyota where it mostly went for Toyota Care services. However the last Vehicle, a Jeep I got used in 2009 at a Jeep dealer in the next county over the river used to send me cards for services and cards to bribe me to come back for a sale or some trade in deal. Then I took that Jeep to a local Jeep dealer for a control arm recall. They came at me in the waiting room trying to see if I'd trade it "because the were paying top dollar for used inventory". Then the Phone calls letters and postcards started to come from that dealer too every few months. It seems to me that it is a regular marketing practice at most car dealerships however it seems like the Toyota dealers I've actually purchased from or had service at leave me alone. I think I prefer that anyhow.

My dealer has been calling me at least once a month for the past year despite me telling them to stop.

Finally told them I'd take $75,000 in cash or I would consider self-financing with approved credit and 50% down and 25% interest.

Last Friday evening they called again and this time I upped it to $125,000.... told them again to stop calling me and used some choice words.
I then got a text message about something from them.

I should complain about the harassment.... finally I blocked the number.

I love this! This is my approach to dealing with the people that cold call me and ask if I want to sell my house. I always say sure. I'm asking 1.5 million US Dollars for it. Usually they hang up

Oh yea, me too - my wife complains about it but I do the same thing just tell them some crazy-azz-number and hell if they say OK well come get it.!

Then I'll call them back, usually these numbers aren't spoofed. I'll call them like 10 times in a row and ask if they want to buy my house. Call call call
call call call call call - they get the message.

I love that I play with them when I have time. No one's taken me up either. I do like the 6 month free rent to find a place and no inspections.

I even call back other spammers too. I had one that called and were asking me to press 1 to approve Amazon purchase, $1500 MacBook pro. I called them back 4 times to do the same back to them. I really pissed 'em off too. Good times.

Elka front suspension, All Pro rear, with airbags, Decked drawers, Southern Off Road bumper, DRT hangers, Carven Exhaust, Stinger head unit, custom made topper, Vijay swing away rear bumper, etc etc
I'm going to stick with my 3rd gen. Now that I have all the suspension dialed in, Decked system installed, Stinger head unit, bumpers, winch......now I need gearing, and eventually that damned supercharger. I like working on it....not all that complicated. I'll stick with it for a long, long time

I'm still getting emails for buy backs plus 10% of current book value and that based on regular mileage which I'm way under. I could probably privately sell my truck and make everything back and then some.

Kinda did that back in the 80's.... Mormons were coming around and me and 2 other guys and 4 gals were hanging out.
As they approached the door we all stripped naked, pretended to be having an orgy, and left the door open so they could see in.

They didn't hang around long LOL...
