I would think it would be the Air Intake Temp sensor. Too bad it's going to be so warm for the next week. Let us know if it still happening with it being 50 degrees in the morning.

Well if it only happens in the extreme cold, your screwed until next winter because I don't think we're getting any more freezing temps at the moment.

If you ever end up throwing a code, or it starts running rough, PM me and we'll hook up sometime. I have that Torque app running on an Android and connecting through the OBD II port. We'll see if anything is out of whack.

Wow, sounds like a lot of BMW and Audi's I've seen where the ridiculous hundreds of pounds of wiring somewhere sometimes has a bad ground, crappy connection, corrosion somewhere, intermittent circuit board solder failure, or other weird flakey prob where it's not conducting as it should, either that or a crappy fuel pump relay (if they have fuel pump or injection relays on tacos).

I had an issue with my old car that my dealership apparently couldn't duplicate. I kept telling them that huge puffs of white smoke was coming out of my exhaust, but they still required proof to authorize the fix. Sucks, but that's usually how they get out of doing the service and leaving the customer frustrated. To counteract their bullshit I recorded a video as proof and showed it to my service provider. They didn't question me any further and they fixed the problem. It's annoying, but the job got done. Record a video until you get that hard crank and bring it over to your dealer. In the video I clearly recorded my VIN # and license plate and then recorded the white smoke from my exhaust. Hope that helps :D

My 09 does this on occasion. It doesn't happen if when I get in the truck I turn the key on and let is sit there for a couple seconds before cranking the engine.

Reading through the thread this is the first thing I thought of. It really sounds a lot like the fuel pressure is bleeding off. I wouldn't be satisfied that it wasn't the issue until I saw good pressure and it had the long crank still.

My 2012 sport 4x4 did this and I read somewhere on here the the transponder wasnt getting the code quick enough. So now I turn the key to the "on" position, wait 1 second, then start. Hard start has gone away. Might be worth a try for you...

got my truck back yesterday, when i started it at the dealership, it was fine.. I work 3rd shift and when I was leaving work, sure enough it sputtered to a start. It was 60 degrees outside. I even tried waiting with the key in the on position for 5 seconds.. I want to bring it to a different dealership to get another opinion but this dealer doesnt offer loaner cars while mine is being serviced and I dont feel I should pay for a rental car while toyota scratches their heads and tells me nothing is wrong with my truck. Thanks to all of you for the suggestions... I'm calling their corporate office..AGAIN!

I will try this and hopefully i can get it to duplicate the problem. Dealer said they scanned it several times and no codes came up.

They thought this might have been my problem so they had me bring all 3 keys the truck came with and they say the immobilizer was working correctly in all of my keys.

    hey zano,
been to another dealer yet? i have the exact same problem with my 2010 and it just started 2-3 months ago. at first i thought it was the temp changes with summer/winter fuel. just seems to be happening more and more now. seems to get worse the longer it sits and occassionally its fine after its been sitting. i'm getting ready to take it to dealer and say wtf?
ya it seems like it loses fuel pressure.

havent taken it to another dealership yet. they kept it for 3 weeks this last time and the other dealership close to me doesnt offer loaner cars.. I'm not paying for a rental while they try to figure this out. hopefully toyota comes up with a solution soon.

See if they'll let you take a vehicle data recorder home. It plugs into the DLC port. The second you start having an issue you hit the trigger button and the the VDR begins recording a snapshot of the vehicle data. The tech can then download the file and review it to see what is out of spec.

Some can record multiple events while others only a single. Not sure what Toyota offers its techs.

You might have to put a refundable deposit down but that could find your problem.

My 2010 has done this since I bought it new from day 1....occasionally will turn over strong but not start.....at all. I now do the turn the key thing and wait a few seconds which seemed to help...but to this day including yest...it still does the same thing.

It is so sporadic I haven't gone to the dealer yet....because I know they won't be able to duplicate it.

I live in South Florida and it does this regardless of temp....50 degrees or high 80's like yest.....
