OP bought red nail polish, painted said coil in the proper area. Got some on his finger nail, painted them all to match, got hit on by another guy...... he hates us forever, sold his Tacoma for a Subaru, joined a gym to bulk up.

I don't know? Why are we still talking about this silly chip.

Yes, the person installing said coil over could probably been more careful. Or just take pride in his work. A dwindling attribute with a lot of folks nowadays.

    It's not a safety thing.
    It's not a show piece.
It's going to get more dings if actually used for what it was designed for.

Hopefully the OP didn't just pay a yahoo at the dealership to install something for him just to make the truck look all off roady and whatnot.

Such a silly little issue to burn calories on worrying how to resolve it.

Almost like freaking out if the guy at the tire shop puts a knick in the tread of a brand new mud tire somehow. It will get all kinds of knicks and damage if actually used for what they are designed for.

    Sheesh!

So you pick out that special pair of sneakers. Get them to the counter to pay for them. The checker opens the box to verify that the size and model match the box, and to remove the security tag. Somehow they scuff the shoe a tiny bit in the process of putting the shoe back in the box. What do you do? Rip into them and demand another set of shoes, or get on with life as you will scuff the silly things the first time you hop into or out of your truck.

Are you the guy that digs through all of the apples in the bin looking for the perfect six without a single bruise on them to take home? Only to find out that the checker bruised one of them while bagging your stuff, two get bruised in transit home, as the can of low sodium refried beans shifted in the bag just right, then your wife bruised two more getting them out of the bag and into the fridge, and then you go and drop one on the floor when attempting to pack one into your lunch. And at the end of the day, you and your family choked down all six bruised apples and lived happily ever after.

    Such trivial real-world problems.

    Nothing like entitlement mentality.

No bro, I buy my organic apples in a bag...I just want my $ worth...here is another one that will get you going. When we bought our Honda Pilot, test drove it. Made the deal, I opened the hood and upon checking the engine I noticed that the plastic engine cover was scratched...at that time the Pilot was $49k (Canadian), so probably you'd be ok with that, not me!, I demanded that it gets replaced or I'll walk...why settle for anything mediocre?!, it's not entitlement bro!

    Do whatever makes you happy.
If that means getting upset and throwing hissy fit because someone put a scratch on something that will certainly get scratched anyway, then you do you.

I feel that the service industry that has gone to shit in your pink frilly hand basket is because those people work for a living, and just want go home at the end of the day without having to deal with people that have to be a damn Karen.

Ya gotta pick your battles, man.

A paint chip on a suspension part isn't even close to say a wrong part installed, never installed, or lack of communication after many many delays in getting a part that was paid for months ago.

    Karens be Karens. :curls:

Quoting again. By far this is the best comment in this thread.

This is a strong assumption as the coilovers went from arriving at the dealership to getting installed on OP's truck.

Just stating that handling marks on coilovers are extremely common, and should be expected.

    Recheck the quote…hint “handling marks”.

The OP asked a simple question. Depending on use, these coils will chip and peel. My aftermarket suspension has to be touched up regularly….and I’ve dinged mine worse taking them on and off. I honestly don’t place the same importance on the coating in terms of appearance compared to the body paint. It’s for corrosion protection and they are a maintainable item.

If it’s that important to the OP I’d recommend asking them to touch them up, or to pay for a good shop to do so.

However, as far as answers go, Kwikvette’s really was the best.

Dang you’re right. We should all stand up. Instead of them sitting in our cars and driving them into the service bay they should put the vehicle on dollies and roll it in. That way there’s no wear on the seats and tires.

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
Of all the places that work on cars as a service, the dealership has to be the one that could care the least about your individual ride. Techs are working under the dealer/corporation umbrella and not their own name or small business. Customers are usually the ones following dealer-specified service intervals that don't care to look into care care any further than watching for the check engine light or getting the oil change reminder taken care of.

Steady supply of customers, steady flow of new cars off the lot coming back for service, low effort and incentive to build personal relationships (and send Christmas presents). Of all the times I've been unsatisfied with work I didn't perform myself, a dealer service department was involved.

Last time I went to the dealer I complained the tech used the wrong weight oil in the engine, in conflict with the manual. Service advisor said, "it's premium oil so..." Talked to corporate about the issue and let them know how unhappy I was, and they replied with "Sorry. Also, here's the page in the manual with the recommended oil." I gave up after that, no sense in throwing good time after bad.

Touch up the spring and drive it. If it makes you feel better to wait on hold and let the service manager know how unhappy you were, go for it.

If you're really upset, stop going to the dealership and just go see Bill. I guess he's short, but uses a lot of grease to satisfy anal as long as you clean up after him and give him a gift for Christmas :cookiemonster:

I think that sums up what @jwctaco said.

The funny thing is, if there were 2 dealers and the first said ‘hey be prepared, my guys may chip up your suspension during install..’
And the other says that’s absolutely wrong , we are careful to return your truck to you the way we got it, doubtful that anyone would pick dealer 1.

Its not so much the point of a 2mm chip, it could be a small ding in the door from the tech accidentally opening it into his service cart. Its the fact that it was never discussed, and completely avoidable.

If anyone is going to ding or scratch the truck its going to be OP. Just because its ‘normal wear and tear anyway’ , doesn’t excuse the fact that OPs truck was damaged by the installer .

They could have attempted to touch it up themselves if they gave a shit. OP probably never would have seen it until much later. But its not about the chip, Its a bigger picture of people who dont care enough. OP cant be blamed for not wanting any damage when his truck gets worked on, however insignificant it may seem to anyone else .

Again, if you ask a dealer up front if they are going to scrape up your new suspension during install, not one will say yes.
Should I expect my $250 wheels to be chipped or damaged when I get new tires? Nah. Thats not acceptable. Im not going to just roll over and say well I may ding a rock in the future so who cares.

It doesn’t matter if its an older 2010, or a brand new truck. Its not the the right attitude to have.

    Dude, your funny!

Not entirely sure how I had a hissy fit here? Just listening to your rambles.

That scratch wouldn't have even been touched up by me let alone getting my undies in a wad and bothering the dealer to remedy it.

I just choose my battles. Some things in life are not worth the energy to bother with.
