Dealer cold called me - they want to buy my tacoma

    I got a cold call today from the dealer I bought my Tacoma at a couple years ago. They mentioned that their inventory was low and they wanted to know if I would sell. I'm not, just thought I'd share

    This is a fairly common practice from my experience. I get letters & call from both Hyundai and Toyota for our vehicles. More frequently lately (not surprising), but common none the less. After all, it would get them two sales, your new one and the resale of your old one. It might be interesting to see what they give you with the current climate.

    Their new lot really is empty. They have 1 Tacoma (TRD sport), and 1 4runner (sr5).

    I told them I was going to put them on hold real quick, just muted my phone and set it down till they hung up. Guy waited about 8 minutes, haven’t called back.

    Most dealerships in my area have no Tacoma 4x4s in stock at all. Those that make it to the lot are sold within 2-3 days. There's a good number of 4x2s available.

    However I did trade my 2018 rx350 in few weeks back for a 2021 es350 Fsport. Dealer offered me $36 on it. I owed 33k. I already knew what the dealer was selling for prior to going. I had done Vroom and all also and $36200 was best. I told them $37500 and they agreed since I am regular there. 5 days later my truck was listed for $44k.

    they did this to my friend, but it shortly became more of an annoyance because he wasn't in the market to get rid of it like you. They also didnt give him a price but wanted him to bring it in and have them inspect it and get a price for him.

    Common practice for years, just wanting you to trade up. Usually with mailers though.

    However, in current circumstances they are much closer to telling the truth. So they called. :D

    I’ve gotten several calls, over a dozen emails, and while at the dealer to get my fuel pump recall and service done 4 different sales and office peeps asked me if I would sell or trade mine in. Not gonna happen. :D

    Usually it's a new salesperson that's given stack of dead end leads (people who bought 3-5 years ago) to contact. It's good practice for rookie sales members and occasionally sales are generated out of it. Don't beat them up too hard. You could always ask what their offer is, but more often then not they'll ask you to come in for an appraisal. :evil::rofl:

    Your thread title should have read

    Dealer cold called me - they want to SELL ME ANOTHER VEHICLE

    As others have mentioned this is one of the oldest sales tactics used by dealerships as it costs nothing to have the newest and dumbest sales person go through old sales records in the hopes they can get you to come by the dealership so "we can talk".

    “We have been trying to contact you about your vehicle extended warranty…wait that’s wrong, we want to buy your Tacoma back”.

    I’ve received letters and calls to buy my Tacoma back last year, said I can get in hand a $21000 check on the spot.
