In the grand scheme of things, $2,500 sounds like a pretty reasonable price the dealer will have to pay to fix their employee screw up and subsequent unacceptable repair.

I’m glad you got that. A bit of a lesson for all of us. Just walking into a body shop is $2,000 these days.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the service manager was trying to sweep it under the rug. Seriously.

Dealers are independently owned and are separate from Toyota Corporate. You'll likely need to file a claim with your insurance and have them try and collect from the dealers insurance.

So will this be reported as an accident? How will the dealer address this as they are the ones who input info into the carfax database? Personally I would have asked how much a new door would be and it might have been less than the amount already spent by them. No reason not to at least bring that up if the body shop fix is 2500 plus you would have a uniform color vs spot repair and paint blend. I would look under the interior to see if there was any other damage that they may not have addressed or even caused. I feel for you brother.

I think because the body shop I'm trying to go to is charging good money it will be a better job as opposed to the dealer just trying to do a quick fix and not wanting to put the time and materials needed to do it how it should be. The body shop owner came out to me and said he'd make sure it was 1000% better than what the dealer did. He seemed to be as OCD as me which I liked.

I received the check for the estimate amount. Toyota was reluctant but I had corporate on the phone with me during the time or the conference call with Toyota's "body shop"

Toyota actually is paying for it even after 2 attempted repairs?

that's wild, glad it worked out for you though. Wouldn't have thought they'd be willing to play ball after everything. Hopefully this last fix does the trick

I’d have to guess you made a point with the dealer, and likely Toyota. Respect for seeing this through. The dealer should be tarred, feathered, drawn and quartered.

No accident reporter to carfax, the GM of this Toyota body shop is the one that handed me the check. Had me sign some paperwork saying that they are no longer responsible for any further work or payments.

Side note: Truck was manufactured in Japan and paint code for them is evidently not the same for MGM as it is for paint done in Mexico or Texas. This is news to me, I thought MGM was going to be the same across the board.

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.

Fuck that. They didnt even return it to you in similar shape to what it was before they wrecked it.

Id be throwing a mild shit fit, and absolutely wouldnt stand for it. IF they dont stand behind their work and damaged your property but wont fix it properly or cut you a check then Id call the attorney general.

Also could you please explain what the hell you meant when you said " googled black line over white screen" ?!

um, that's not possible. unless it was built for the japanese domestic market, but then it'd be a hilux. the entire reason toyota builds trucks in mexico/texas is specifically to avoid paying the chicken tax on importing trucks, which would make the truck cost 25% more than they already cost.

They're all made in Mexico except for a handful that were made in Texas. :tumbleweed:

My Vin number reads a J which I thought manufactured/assembled in Japan? When I picked up my truck, it was freight delivered it shows, not flat bed delivered. I'm just going off what I saw at the dealer. Percentage for build is 90% Japan it says. I don't know exactly how that works.

Open your drivers door and look at the sticker on the inside of the door frame. It should say manufactured by Toyota in Baja California. (Mexico)
