my truck was the wrong one... I just had to go back in and sign all the paperwork again for the agreed upon price. They just had the wrong VIN on all the paperwork, so I got the truck i wanted, they just sold me the wrong one on their end.

Dealers can be pretty stupid at times. When I picked mine up, the sticker said it had the Tonneau Cover, but it did not and I had not ordered it with one. While negotiating, I brought that up and the sales manager said "If it says it has one, then it has one." He would not back down and I just looked at him like he was the biggest moron on the planet. The salesman did not speak up about it either. I told him to go check for himself, so he and the salesman did. When he came back, he said "well, it says it has it, so we'll just have to add one" I told him I did not want it and he just needed to remove the charge. He said "I can't. The VIN in the system indicates it has one, so I have to leave it as is" I just about punched him in the throat. He finally gave in, but had I not been wanting the truck and not wanting to go through the pain in the ass process of "ordering" one, I would have just walked away.
    Fight the good fight OP!

MY assessment of this forum is that people decide there is going to be an issue and outcome before then act. Be a god damn adult, walk back in and say this isnt what i paid for. you've got it coming, gimme a fleet car for the time period and we redo everything when new one is here.

I'm at a loss for words on how you can blatantly not notice the tech package, or do a pre-inspection before you sign all the paperwork... especially on such a large purchase. I test drove the truck I have before I bought it, and sat in it at least 5 more times inspecting everything before doing the final sign off. I even had my wife and kids look for stuff (no matter how minor) that I might have missed.

You paid for it too, so you should absolutely get the vehicle you paid for.

He got what he paid for. I think that's what the dealer told him. The extra money paid is called a stupid tax. It's kind of like touching that scar on your hand that you cut as a kid and think boy was I stupid. Doubt that the op will make that mistake again.

The dealer is probably having him fill out an ID10T form.

The vehicles are not made by the dealers they are made by Manufacturers and the VIN is connected to a "VIR" or spec sheet. If the vehicle is leased or sold to someone without a Tonneau and the SPEC sheet says it has one the dealer is required to sell it as the Manufacturer designed that specific build which is why the sales manager should have ordered a replaement through parts dept or filed a missing parts claim in shipping. It was more than likely damaged in port or stolen in Transportation. The reason _ insurance is required and in a total loss the Tonneau cover has $$ value that insurance companies pay money on. In a lease if you take a Taco without a Tonneau but the spec sheet says it has one when you turn the lease in you will be billed for missing equipment from Toyota not the dealer. Dealers are just middle men who buy a product and sell the product to turn a profit. The relationship between Toyota and the dealers is a VERY harsh relationship toyota wishes dealers didn't exsist and they could drop ship autos to customers but it doesn't work that way in the USA. Yes I have been in the business for a long time. My 2 cents- I agree dealers can be complete idiots at times finding the guy that knows his shit is the key for a customer to get it done right!! I'm that guy:):)

You spent that much money and didn't even know what you were paying for? Moonroof, heated seats, dual zone climate control, not mention all the sensors, Bed cover?
You must have been really excited to get a new truck. Well hopefully they make it right for you, but you can't totally blame the dealership here can you, all parties involved take fault on this one.

Does the vin on loan paper work match the truck you are driving? If the gave the wrong truck there is a good chance they didn't check the vin on paper work either. You could be driving a truck that doesn't belong to you. So the moral is wrong vin easy swap.

    No update?

Some dealers play games though. I have a feeling dealer knew this truck did not have the tech package. The documents he signed most likely show no tech package.

No, you can simply just look for the electronic switch. I'll try hard not to :deadhorse: I do understand you can get caught up in the moment but you have to use some common sense. You didn't know what the tech package was but the sales person said your truck had it. Why wouldn't you tell your salesperson what you want, instead of him pushing you into something you might not have wanted or needed. Also the price seems pretty high to not have the tech package. Perhaps your in an area that is selling above MSRP? Even if they simply made a mistake on their end, or they tried to screw you over, the second you realized the issue, instead of coming here for advice on what to do you should have been already on your way down there, or atleast called them and talked to them about it. I hope you come back with a good update, and hope you won't let this happen again in the future.
