Yea, well...... since there is no dipstick, and well documented that some are fine, and some aren't, I'd not be taking a chance. Gambling isn't really my thing, especially at $35k a pop.

Not to mention my poor little 2.7, with only 8.5k on it, was overfilled with oil when they 'serviced' the truck before popping it out on the used lot. And I can't tell you how many tires I've seen set to the max pressure number on the sidewall.

(I owned GTO #104 for a number of years. I also crewed on a '69 RAIV Judge that briefly held the NHRA E/S E.T. record)

It looked like they washed it with sand paper. Literally. Day 1. I had them buff it and detail it again. No change. I finally did it myself. 8 hour paint correction brand new.

That's really a shame. If their "detailers" couldn't pull out some light scratching you should have taken it to a body shop detailer or an actual detailer on their dime

My paint looked great for about 3 weeks until I ran a bush down the side of it. But it's a 4x4 truck, that's what happens.

Any sort of swirls the dealer could possibly put in it will be minor compared to when you actually start driving the truck and going off road. The only thing I would do is request no tire shine, some members have had the tire shine stain the paint on the drive home.

You know that fun part when you sit in the finance guys office to put pen to paper on that long ass contract, well of course that's their time to sell you more stuff that you don't really need. One example of that, in my opinion is the $1,200 fancy wax job they strongly suggest etc etc. I promptly said no thx to that, the extended warranty, fabric protection, their version of clear bra and on and on and on. Just my cautionary two cents OP

Also it's the best time to get to know your new truck touching and making sure you see anything off the start before it's a bigger

I used to work at a dealership in high school years ago doing everything from dealer trades to washing cars. New cars just got a quick wash at our place with a mitt /chamois. No it's not a Adams Foam cannon 2 stage wash blah blah blah. It doesn't take much "detailing" to prep a new car. Would I let someone wash my new truck at the dealership the first time? Yes.

Why in the world would a dealership use a buffer on a brand new car?

that's like these soccer moms who go to the car wash at walmart parking lot sponsored by church groups, girls softball teams etc...they drop their towels in a pile of gravel and just pick up where they left off.

    Do it yourself!

Don't forget that the detailing job in a dealership is the one with the most personnel rotation....
They get a shitty salary, so they can't keep the good ones around.

Not that I have anything against younger kids who start working, but it's often younger men who don't give a shit and only want the pay to go buy a 6 pack. (mmmmmm beer lol)

    Get a good detailer!
Or if you are meticulous and know what you are doing, do it yourself!
I asked them to not even wash it! lol.

I had my guy (i have people you know. lol) detail it and apply a top quality paint sealer.

Easier to wash and wax and it gives a good protection.

Automatic car wash has some of the worst products to wash a car. Especially the "no contact" ones!
There is a reason that it cleans without any scrubbing. It's so toxic and powerful that it even removes wax in the process.

Only time I go is once or twice in winter to remove excess salt and crap.

Used them for years. I always have my truck or car professionally detailed before selling privately and the cars looks like new. Never had an issue at all on at least half a dozen different vehicles I've owned including a jet black BMW. White is a great color; Hides little micro swirls...which is why I own a white tacoma and most of my vehicles have been white. Black will drive you nuts and show every little thing. Buying a black vehicle is a full time job if you want it to look good--maybe you're retired and have the free time. Guys who buy black and then off road them, I'll never understand it. Unless you're "showing" your car, nobody gives a rats ass about the micro swirls in your clear coat but YOU.... I promise you that. From 5 feet away nobody is going to notice. Especially on silver or white....

In AZ you aren't going to wash it yourself without having softened water, shade and a cooled area to do it...the water will bead up and dry on the vehicle in seconds in the summer, even at 7am the temps are well over 85 to 90 degrees with 14% humidity = rapid evap.

    Mountains out of molehills.
