    Hi,
So I was planning on going to a road trip that’s about 5k miles round trip. And my Tacoma was at 9.5k milage, which is .5k below the recommended milage to get oil change by toyota. So I got my service done .5k before the 10k mark. Which was suppose to be an oil change

So I go on the road trip and come back with just under 15k to do the tire rotation service. However the dealer tells me I’m over the 10k limit for oil change and they have to use my free 20k oil change.

basically idk what they did at 10k service but it doesn’t look like the changed the oil at all.

now I never got a low oil pressure sign in my dashboard but I’m concerned about driving such a long distance at times 17h in one day without changing the oil. So anyone know if it’s okay or not? And how come the oil change light never came on if that was the case?

I don't think not getting the 10k change would cause your oil pressure to drop causing any annunciator to go off
That oil probably isn't burning away in 15-20k miles

The trucks just have a service warning that goes off every 5k miles and you can reset it yourself, that's what the dealer does

Time to learn to change your own oil!

Change it yourself and do not rely on others.

Definitely not good to go that long between oil changes but also highway driving is easy on oil.

I'd just change it now and forget it ever happened

Find a good independent shop that works on Toyota. Google them check them out and find one that suits you.
I wouldn't let the dealer clowns work on my Tacoma.

Same with my wife's Subaru. Found a great shop and have used them for the last 6-7 years. Good people.
Good work at a reasonable price. Same crew all this time.

15k on the original oil wouldn’t be great.

It’s fine. Be more clear moving forward and check your invoices for oil billed out.

I bet they reset the maintenance reminder when they did the 10K service. I would reach out to the service manager and tell them what happened and ask why they didn't change the oil. That's some bull$hit.

It would have made a lot more sense to do the 10k oil change 500 miles early than 5000 miles late. That aside, buy a couple of quarts of oil just in case you run low and top off as necessary. For a long trip like that, take the oil with you.

Also, you can always tell the dealer you want an oil change even at 5k miles. They may charge you for it. I made them do my first change at 1k miles…I told them I’d pay for it and they did it.

You've received good advise so far. Low oil pressure light is for what it is. Low oil pressure. Not "time to change oil" notification. Be more specific when you take your vehicle anywhere for service. Tell them what you want and what your expecting. At the very least ask what they're going to do and ask what they did when picking up. Go over the work order carefully before paying. Something as simple as checking the dipstick at the dealers parking lot to see if the oil is new (light brown). You do check the oil level periodically right? Service writers and oil change guys don't really care about you. Gotta take care of your things yourself.

The oil change bay line at my dealership is usually 10 vehicles deep. No way do they get all of the old oil out of the engine before they close it up and pour in the new. Oil filter change? Maybe/maybe not. Synthetic? Correct weight? I know exactly what is in my crankcase, I know the oil filter has been changed because I did it.

They might have forgot to charge for the 10k mile oil change and did the oil change . Now using the 20k miles one so they can get paid for the oil change .

What does the paperwork say happened on your 10k service? Did you not check what you signed before picking up the truck to make sure an oil change was done?

Chilax Johnny, your truck is fine. On the other hand, your ego is going to need a complete overhaul by time the 3rd Gen goon squad is done with you.
