Curious what the service paperwork said they did. Look at the bright side... at least you got out of there with oil in the engine. Might not be so lucky next time.

    very good points!
Main takeaway: tell the service writer what you expect, or they’ll give you what suits themselves best.

Blows my mind how the truck was at the dealer "for something" 5k miles ago and you have no idea what was done. Doesn't anybody read their invoice? Ask questions when you drop it off, ask questions before leaving, look at the paperwork, tell them what you want..

It's a brand new vehicle they know they won't be able to make any money off of. To them it's simply another obstacle to get through before the end of the day. They'll hurry through it as quickly as possible.

If they won't change the oil, do it yourself or take it to somebody who will

Not like you can roll back the odometer and go back in time to change it at 10k. Change it now. Life goes on.

You’ll know they changed it when you need the breaker bar to get the filter housing off!

I agree with others, check your paperwork, if it shows a 10k change take it at face value and assume they completed it. At least now you know it was done at 15k

I changed mine for the first time at 1K myself, and it went back to the dealer at 5K for the first dealer service. After that it's every 5K on my own. Most likely the dealer will never see the truck again unless a major problem if it's still under warranty. Every time I go back there, they try to sell me something I don't want or need. I don't trust the dealer, they can lick my muffler bearings all day long.

Exactly what they did to mine. That’s what I get though for being lazy.

Dumb fucks drop down my whole TRD skid and Talon cat shields instead of just removing 4 allen screws. They did not install it back in the correct order and this thing was popping more than grandpa’s hip bone.
Dropped them down myself and saw the cross threaded debauchery they did on my bolts.

No more being lazy for me.
Well I did buy the motivx tools so that I can change my oil while wearing a Tux now.
    :D

No fumoto valve, I am not that lazy !

It's always a good idea to read your service invoice.

Maybe I'm missing something here. You all are busting his chops because he took the truck in for the 10 thousand service which should be an oil change, he goes back at 15 thousand and the dealer says the oil was not changed but hey, we are going to use up your 20 thousand second service because "we" screwed up.
Sounds like a better advice would be to find another dealer. OP did nothing wrong.
OP, sounds like by your driving style you have nothing to worry about. Ideally you should have had the first change before 10 thousand. I would inquire at the dealer what is going on with the seemingly lack of service and have them document their mistake.

If you're signing something for a service, you're 100% responsible for knowing what the service is (or isn't in this case). Could the dealer communicate better? Absolutely. Is it their fault? No, OP wasn't able to communicate to them what his expectations were.

the truck will be fine. I wouldn't let them burn my 20k mile change if I could help it.

my "oil change" notice popped up on my dash info screen at 5k. seemed easy enough, so I did it myself. I was doing my 2006 at the same time anyways. (both trucks let me know at the same time).

I'll let the dealer do the free one at 10K, maybe.

so the OP lights didnt come on at 5K? or the dealer didnt change the oil, but reset the counter on the oil-change light?

Another reason for a 5K oil change. Had this happened at 5K it very likely you'd have discovered it before it went beyond the 10K (easy) interval. Your new truck would never have suffered through a 15K OC interval and the subsequent low oil pressure which isn't good no matter how you spin it. Now every time you hear a weird sound you'll wonder if it's the low OP coming back to haunt you. That's one of the main reasons I don't agree with 10K oil changes, thats running it out to the limit if you're getting low oil pressure warnings within 5K of the suggested interval. At that point the oil has been in there way too long IMO.

OP never had low oil pressure. A 10k OCI won't have any significant affect on oil pressure vs a 5k OCI.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Did you say to the service writer I want my oil changed so it was on the work order ??

If not most places are not going to touch the oil.

Dealer serviced the oil/filter and tire rotation at 10K. At 15K when when I did the oil change myself the drain plug and filter were so tight I needed a breaker bar to loosen. Free isn't worth it.
