Pretty standard for all vehicles, nothing special.

Highest mileage loaner I've had was at just over 5k when I returned it. They never gave me an option in what type and just gave me what they had. I think these were designated as loaners though. They had all the plastics that come in a new vehicle but higher mileage than you'd expect from a new car and they always had a keychain with the service writer's name

Any time I've needed a loaner (for previous vehicles, not my current truck - haven't needed one), the dealer sends me up the road to Enterprise rentals, who would give me choices based on what they had available.

My sister's first car was a little escort 5MT. It was a dealer loaner and had about 5k on the clock when dad bought it at a huge discount. Which tracks, I think they do try to sell them before that 5k number.

The only time when I didn't have a brand new car was when the dealership had an Enterprise desk on campus and was able to issue a loaner through them.

I bought one of those years ago back when dinosaurs roamed the earth :) Had a bit over 3k on it and the discount was huge. The nice part about it is that since the vehicle has never been registered or titled you get the full 36k mile warranty from the date and mileage you put it in service.

That happened twice to me. First, the car was better then the one getting serviced. I was like, "Keep it as long as you want!"

My dealer uses Enterprise. When mine got taken for the frame replacement I got a 2020 Chevy Malibu, to add insult to injury. Kept it a few weeks, turned out a blessing for my wife with the heated seats. I then had a 2019 Nissan Frontier DCSB. Not a bad truck but more inside than I need.

In 2017 I was driving the old school Ridgline. Honda told me to park it at my house, go to Hertz and pick out anything I wanted. Drove a new 4Runner all summer. And, now I own one along with my Taco.

Would never leave my truck for weeks or months on a lot - way too big a chance of it getting damaged. Had it happen when purchasing a truck that had to sit there while paperwork/loan got processed. Take it home, park it till parts come in and drive their loaner.

manufacturers typically have the policy for their loaner fleet to be new, and specific models, both to promote exposure to customers and sales.

There are cars on a dealer lot that have sat for a month without damage.
and cars at home parked outside getting ran into.

Some dealers have a storage warehouse for that reason.

    they can

I thought the dealer had to give you your vehicle back if you insist and just encourage you not to drive it.

If they loaned me a Prius, I'd take it off roading to places I'd normally be afraid to go.

Mine was on the lot for like 10 months. I got to drive a Camry, 4runner and highlander. The highlander was the best of the bunch. Although the women loved the Camry's sunroof and insisted her Cherokee come with one.

Of course. Customers decline repairs with dangerous vehicles all the time. The vehicle is not the dealer's property :notsure:

Hmm, I should see if my '23 has a recall. I want a loaner. Take a few weeks off work.. See what Canada is like this time of year. Put on enough miles I have to take the loaner in for an oil change to find out that has a recall and get a 3rd vehicle. Before you know it, I'm towing my loaner Supra to the track with my loaner Sequoia Pro. Classic scenario, happens all the time.

Mine sat for 2 months at the dealer waiting for the new frame to be built and shipped cross country. Trust me I didn't want to drive it.

Yup and in today's world there are those in that situation who would then try to sue the dealer..

I had a previous vehicle at the dealer's for like 2 weeks while they waited for parts. While it sat on the lot in the sun, they left the old parts and some of the new parts ready to be installed sitting on my leather passenger seat. When I got the car back the passenger seat had deep cuts and scratches on it. When I picked it up I noticed it immediately and brought it to their attention. They claimed I brought it in that way until I was able to track down some of the old parts and line them up with the creases and scratches. I hate dealers.

A dealer won't give you a loaner if you don't leave your car with them.
