My Toyota dealer uses Enterprise too. Driving a Hyundai Accent in Oregon snow made me appreciate my 4x4 Tacoma.

    I second this.

imagine if it were to be cloudy outside, or worse yet, it rains!

all that weather would get all over your vehicle! and we already know these have leaky brake lights & frames that rot when they touch water

imagine all the rocks kicked up by careless technicians whizzing by your parked car, messing up the paint, and probably knocking the safety sensors out of calibration!

you’d be MUCH better off storing it on that side street parallel parked outside your home, so if something happens to it there, you have peace of mind knowing that it is ONLY your responsibility to get it fixed, and not anyone elses

In California cars are known to be vandalized by the “fiery, but mostly peaceful, it’s cool they have insurance” crowd when sitting on dealer lots.

It’s why my Porsche dealer owns a secure off site parking garage.

the advisor made it very clear that they would not give my truck back. Maybe laws are different from state to state but they would not give it back. I wasn't going to have a meltdown on the guy in an attempt to get the truck back considering I was getting another Tacoma as a loner.

I did make it very clear to the guy that I would rather take the truck back. I am not a fan of leaving my truck with aftermarket parts at the dealer for potentially months.

I did reach out to Toyota to see what the rules are with holding people's vehicles.

I'm not too worried. Same reason why a meltdown to get my truck back wasn't needed, but I still would like clarification on how they have the ability to not give someone's vehicle back.

Toyota really should give people a heads up though when informing them of the recall that they may not get their vehicle back.

Hope it resolves quickly OP, as a dealer tech we also hate just sitting on a vehicle waiting for parts to arrive.
For those wondering about loaner cars and rentals, keep in mind I'm a Ford tech but its most likely the same.
When Ford puts out a recall it says if a loaner/rental is authorized, a recall that takes less then 1 day of labor with parts readily available will not offer a loaner/rental.
In Louisiana new vehicles can be sold as new with up to 5000 miles(at least this is what sales dept has told me), at my dealer a few new lower trim lever vehicles that are not selling quickly are picked for service loaners.
One issue with rentals can be that Ford corp will only pay $35 dollars a day for your rental, but Enterprice/Hertz/Ect lowest cost is $45 a day, usually its just easier for the dealer to eat the $10 extra instead of calling Ford Corp for 2+ hours for them to cover the full bill. I know I had to fight Progressive on this a little to cover my rental when there customer hit my truck.
The loaners used during recalls are a interesting way the dealer can make money(which I imagine they lose more with the discount selling a 5000 mile new vehicle). So Ford says that $35 a day is approved for the recall, below that it says that a dealer loaner can be used and the dealer can charge Ford corp the $35 dollars a day.
If you do say that you need a truck due to your work my dealer will generally try to work with you, but if your platinum F350 has the recall you might get a F250 if your lucky, more likely you'll get a F150.(Ford specific obviously)
I have noticed at my dealer for long term recalls we generally uses rentals, I assume its because after 2 months a customer can easily drive over 5000 miles in a loaner causing the dealership sales issues.

My Cousin's new Pro came in, had to wait a little over a month because of the recall. He got it last week. He sold his 21 Off Road and they gave him a 23 SR 4wd loaner.

He had to wait a month from the day it arrived at dealership - or he drove it a bit and then had it recalled? My OR just arrived at dealership - I’ll pick it up next week - and I’m Wondering if I will have this issue. Thanks.

It came in and they immediately let him know and he was going to trade his 21 but sold it to a friend. That's when they gave him the loaner for about a month. So they would not release it. However he did buy a little under msrp.

It didn't take long as he is friend with the owner, truck came in, they had the papers ready to sign, he wrote the check and was done very shortly. When I got my 18 it was very quick as I bought mine on a phone call, they had all the papers ready, signed, paid up and left, I was here at 9am sat morning got my truck and then at a soccer game by 10:30.

Lots of stories on here of people's trucks getting held at the port. It's prob for this same issue.

Sounds like the dealer is taking care of you. You brought in a truck, and they gave you a truck instead of a car. That's a win in my book.

Recently I took our '19 Outback in for an oil leak and after a couple minutes they had had me set up with a '23 Outback as a loaner as the car needed to stay at the dealer (pretty bad leak) to get the engine pulled and resealed. I returned it full of gas and washed as a thank you.

In one of the previous air bag recalls, Toyota kept the Tundra I had at the time for six months. They had the parts required to complete the recall, but another part in the truck had shed the bar code sticker, so they could not "verify" it.

They promised they would keep the truck in working order. They provided nice rental vehicles from Enterprise.

When I got the truck back, the battery was dead, some of the tires had set uneven, and the paint on the top had begun to fail. They jumped the battery, and it held on for a few weeks. The tires had not recovered after a month of driving. I re-coated the top.

My wife had to explain to them that gasoline goes bad when it sits. She almost had to go to war to get them to put some fresh gas in it and let it run a bit while it sat. I was shocked (naive me) that the dealership did not start, run and rotate the recall vehicles on the lot while they waited for repair.

I still love Toyotas. Not impressed with the dealers.
