The farm I grew up working on in the late 80's we would use the oil to coat the irrigation lines to the fields as a extra level of rust protection. It only added to the flavor of the veggies!

That would warrant a second opinion then wouldn't it. Is it the light or cable that's faulty on you truck?

No. The light is not faulty. I am only going by what the recall states. It says if the cable goes bad the air bag light should come on.

From what the recall says the inspection is just checking the part number on the spiral cable to determine if it needs replacement or not.

Yep they're not going to wait around for the light to come on. If the part # matches the one on their list it gets replaced

I'm surprised no one posited this idea...

Maybe the dealer broke something during inspection and couldn't give the truck back cause it's un-drivable.

No money, all went to truck...
I dunno, I would never leave my truck at Toyota for an indefinite amount of time waiting for airbag parts. Frick that, they have no power to hold my truck.

There isn’t one, unless you elected to let them keep it in exchange for a rental car.

My sister had her truck in for some work once (Ford Raptor). They called her and let her know they were gonna need the truck longer than expected. She pushed them til finally they admitted they had opened the door into the lift and scratched the paint and were going to have the door repainted. She told them to send pictures of the damage before doing anything... it was like 3/4 inch hairline scratch, that yes, went through the clear and paint. They were going to repaint the whole door. She had worse scratches all around the truck hahaha. She asked for one of them paint pens and to pick up the truck as scheduled.

Because it’s so common sense it’s not even funny.

The dealer has NO RIGHT to your property. If your truck isn’t drivable, you’re free to pick it up on a flatbed.

If your truck is drivable, you could’ve driven it right off the lot and they couldn’t have done anything to stop you.

Show us the law please, just because you think its common sense doesn't mean it aligns with the rules here in CT.

I hope your right but unfortunately opinion doesn't get me anywhere in this case.

If you really want it back there's gotta be some type of waiver you can sign

My 4Runner had the Takata airbags that would literally KILL you, and all they said was “promise not to drive it with a passenger in the front seat.”

My wife’s truck has a recalled leaky water pump that they can’t replace due to the UAW strike and they just told us to keep topping it off.

I bet your right. Hopefully Toyota will let me know the true details when they reach back out. They said they were also going to find out the situation with the parts availability.

The dealer sent me a copy of their procedure for this recall. As of 2 weeks ago it was updated and states:

Tacoma spiral cables (Part Number: 04003-2640E) are now available.

    Be Grateful
My wife`s Ford Bronco was kept by the dealer for same reason
and they refuse to give me a loaner.
Even after i told them we use the car for work.
    3 weeks now and counting.

This thread is getting a little silly now.

A dealership is not a government entity nor are they an agent of the government. They cannot seize property, and they definitely cannot take property without consent or compensation. It's your vehicle, not theirs, and it is not their concern whether the vehicle is legal to operate on the roads or not. It doesn't matter if they want to protect themselves from liability. It is not their property. I would not have left without the compensation of a loaner.
