One dealer I visited was trying to sell me a "new" 2007 Tacoma double cab off-rd. Said they would do 10k off the 2007 MSRP. I asked him what has this truck been doing all this time? How many miles? he gave me a BS story about it getting on the wrong train and sitting somewhere out in AZ for 6mo. It has 244 miles on it. I asked him if it was a demo and he said no.

I'm not interested in it as it looks like it was used as it has some scratches and bird dropping marks on the roof. But the inside still does have plastic and protective film...

I just don't know how they can sell it as new. They said that the warranty will start the day of sale, never been titled, blah blah blah. Has anyone ever seen "old stock" this old still on a lot??? I guess I am skeptical. I did run a VIN chk and it came back with nothing. Said it was mfg and sent to dealer...

i guess i'm just curious. would be a good savings because its fully loaded up I think. But there are soooooo many 2009s on lots (going for about 6k off) I don't see anyone buying this one, meaning they should take 15k off, hahaha :D

well according to the sales guy

if its never been titled it can be considered new.

sounds like a loop hole / scam. i mean if the thing had say 5000 miles and never been titled they can sell it as new!? BS!

Maybe it got lost in the mix and never sold. Being its fully loaded makes me wonder if someone special ordered it and it just got lost in the shuffle? Then a dealer employee drove it around?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
It could be a special order that fell through. The mileage could have been tacked on by test drives and just shuffling around the lot. I would consider buying.

I don't know how much of what the salesman said is true or not, however, the warranty does start the day of purchase.

but i would have concerns. if it has just been sitting around for 2 years braving the elements... i would think all fluids need to be flushed and re-filled, new battery, even new tires?

i mean i would consider this a USED truck not new. Its already depreciated 2 years!!!!!!

Also the paint has imperfections like chips on the hood i noticed (tiny but still), some bird dropping or sap damage on the roof I noticed, scratches here and there, a tiny ding in the drivers door, and some minimal corrosion in the undercarrige.

so its like its not really worth it... unless they take more off that MSRP.

I would just give them a list of demands. They want the truck gone and are probably willing to do anything to get it off the lot.

What are all of the options the truck has? Location? How much are they asking for it?

Never titled = new. The $10k off is worth considering compared to a new one with the current incentives. Check the Blue Book to see if that truck is worth what they're wanting for it.

Toyota just posted a huge sales increase last month. Any deals out there will be evaporating soon.

I just ran it with out knowing any of the options and came back with 25K for a base model. If it is TRD and all that jazz it will be worth a lot more.

Might be worth buying then. Start right away with a vehicle worth more than what you owe for it!

If they clean it up, repair any dings and chips (in other words, make it NEW), then I don't see a problem. I don't see any reason to change the fluids out other than maybe the oil and even that, there shouldn't be a problem with the current oil.

I would definitely consider it if they are offering $10K off. Maybe try to go even lower.

I dunno,.....if it is optioned to your liking and is a color you can live with,It would certainly have my attention.Tacomas have about the best possible resale in their class, and to be honest, those small imperfections are only a couple of months away anyhow.I agonized over my first nicks and dings,so look at it as eliminating "first scratch anxiety".:D

There have been some additional options added since '07 but they certainly don't add up to 10 grand. The longer you keep the truck, the smaller the resale margin becomes to say an '09 as well.If I had come across an '05 under the same circumstances when I bought my '07,I'd have been all over it.

    Just my $.02 CAD.:)

Not sure if this has been said:
A vehicle is considered new until titled. A dealer can run the car with dealer plates, put 10K miles on it and still sell it at a greatly marked down price as a brand new vehicle...with 10K miles because it has never been titled and has no plates associated with the vehicle. Once the vehicle has been titled, it is considered used and cannot be sold for a greatly marked down "new vehicle" price.
Just another way dealers can rip you off.

That's a helluva deal for the right buyer.

I would rather have an 07 than an 09. Less of the silly electronic crap.

when i worked at the car dealership the owner always drove the the newest most top of the line vehicle with all the new accessories and he always put about 4k-5k miles on them put it back on the showroom and sold it new with a marked up price because of the accessories, of course he drove it as a demo with his dealer plates on it.

Get the VIN number and run a carfax report.

The truck is NOT new and it's already depreciatted in value regardless.

Look up the KBB & Nada values and find out exactly how much its worth regardless. I wouldn't go any higher than the KBB/NADA listings.

I seen a show on 20/20 about flood vehichles katrina/midwest and how "new older" trucks were ending up on dealer lots. I would be weary.
