Dealer Impounded my 2016 Tacoma on Routine Service Due to Recall

I guess we'll see what happens. Sure seems like the automakers and dealers do whatever the hell they want.

Case in point: they didn't even stop the production lines when they knew they were installing defective Takata parts. It should be illegal to sell a new vehicle with a defective part.

I guess we know who the legislators are buddy buddy with.

 

I got a Camry when my 6-Speed was in the shop but I called back the transportation department at my dealer and got it swapped for a Double Cab SR5. I just told them I needed a truck for work purposes.

I wish a dealership would try to pull this with me. Think of the civil rights lawsuit you would have against them for violating your constitutional right by seizing your personal property without due process or a civil warrant.

At least you are not putting miles on your Taco. Look at the bright side. If you need a truck bitch hard enough and you will get one. Also, drop you liability insurance until it's repaired, unless it is going to be a few days. We did this on a Lexus that had the airbag recalled and Lexus gave us a loaner for 8 months.

I love how when the recall notice first went viral folks kept arguing with me it wasn't a "Stop Sale". And yet I've seen a couple people already today posting about how dealers are refusing to let them drive their trucks due to the recall or dealers are refusing to take their truck as a trade in due to the recall.

Toyota really screwed the pooch on these 3rd Gens.
