Dealer installs the pulse or camera once it’s delivered. Pulse is their standard up charge for MD residents, I just don’t want it, it has zero value to me. If it was an actual safety feature it wouldn’t be a dealer up charge now would it? They actually can’t even install it for PA residents, so they use the camera as their standard up charge for PA residents.

The dealer has to pay for the pulse which it isn't free. They got pulse modules from the vendors, so the dealer have to pay the bill off. If you want it, then you pay for it so the dealer can send check to the vendors for the pulse module sold. If you don't want it, then tell them to leave it out. If you think dealer's dashcam is too expensive, then leave it out and you can find dashcam online for cheap.

Ask the dealer and see if they are willing to lower the truck price since you don't want those two options you mentioned.

OP already indicated he doesn't have that option, the dealer won't remove it. His only option is to walk away from the deal, and this was the best deal he was able to get. All these "options" are a way to advertise you don't charge a market adjustment and charge it in another way. So, either he pays a $1,300 market adjustment, or a $1,000 market adjustment and buys a $300 add-on he doesn't want. Same end result.

In that case, he can disable pulse by going to the headliner to remove module wires.

Yep, you got it. I can get the pulse or the camera or nothing, but I’m still handing over between $400 - $600. Still better than handing over $5000 for nothing but “market adjustment” to another dealer. I’m just trying to make the best of my limited choices.

As for the dealer paying for the pulse part… sure Tazminator, they’re paying $5 for the part and some labor time? Even the salesman admits it’s about making extra money on the deal.

    4 run, 2 don't
    Just walk away

I never understood how people make themselves feel obligated to 'pay for this...that'.

There is such a thing as walking away from a deal if you don't like it.

I know that.. that's how businesses work. They gotta have profit somehow so they keep dealership running as long as they can.

Just like I buy beer for $3.00 bottle and I sell it to you for $5.00 which I get $2.00 profit but I give $1.00 to bartender who sold the beer. That times thousands of people come in per day... Meaning I get thousands of dollars profit but I have to pay for supplies, bills, etc.

They will make plenty of money even if they took the light or cam off, you act like dealerships have not been making a killing on rip offs for the past 2 years. You got to remember dealer pays invoice for their vehicles , they also get hold back, and on toyotas they sell add ons on every vehicle they get after it goes through port. Then F&I office also tries to rip you off selling you bs warranties.

I didn't elaborate in my first post, but overall this truck is a much better price than any other I've found. I'm stuck with a some small upcharges over MSRP but it's ~$1K total, the next cheapest deal was $5K over MSRP. Trying to haggle on price is rough nowadays, a guy at one dealer rudely hung up on me when I started talking about MSRP. I've walked away from other deals, I can live with this one, it's just a question of spending an extra $200 on it or not.

I'm going to stop by the dealer this week and look at the camera. It's supposed to be a 4K camera, so I'll check it out and decide if it's worth the money or not.

Get the camera, you can sell it later if you want, the pulse is just passe only. Just my $.02

No need to tell me that.. I already know. All you do is deal with the dealers or walk away if you don't like their options.. That's simple.. If you have something that is installed on your truck that you don't like it, then remove/disable it or deal with it. Deal the idiots who sell the vehicles... Just like, "Hey, I don't want that pulse, I want the truck that's all, so I want lower the price down a bit. Or I'd walk away and find business elsewhere."

If there is a law for pulse in your state (or country), then nothing you can do about it.

Pulse is nothing... there is nothing annoying about it. If you don't like it, then don't look at it, look at taillights instead. If you don't want pulse at all, then you will have to stick with old vehicles that do not have nanny crap.

Plus, many people change the look on their vehicles these days... such as dark tint, black wheels, lift, etc. If you don't like pulse, then fix the wires or replace the brake light... Easy as 1, 2, 3.

Mandatory add-ons are a thing these days. Don’t want to buy their junk? They wont sell you the vehicle. Or sometimes you can pay extra $$ as a ‘dealer fee’ , and get nothing in return . It’s a sellers market.

BINGO. Dealers can say they sell at MSRP, but load you up with BS low cost, high profit add-ons. Its MANDATORY, they won’t remove them or lower the price.

This is what I'm dealing with, unless folks saying "Walk away" know dealers who are much more generous than the ones I've found inventory at. If they'd agreed to swap the pulse silliness for the OEM tailgate lock upgrade I wouldn't have thought twice about it, even though they priced it at $200 over the factory charge of ~$260 for the same feature, but like @whatstcp said, that pulse mod is a few bucks of hardware and a few minutes of labor so they use that as their moneymaker.

I mean, sure I could wait a few years, but between in-laws in BFE Alabama, family in BFE NY, and a wife who packs like the apocalypse is imminent on any road trip, my SUV isn't cutting it anymore (I'm sure she'll find a way to fill a 6 ft bed though). Right now is probably the best trade-in value I'm going to get for that SUV anyway, plus I'll be glad to never visit the Jeep dealer again, their service team here is a mess.

Jeezus guys... these dealer installed options are ALL bogus money makers. Universally they are easily done by a customer for pennies on what the dealer will charge, or they are already done at the factory and the dealer is charging as though they installed them.

Scotchguard is on the fabrics from the manufacturer before the fabric is made into a seat cover. Undercoating is one of their minimum wage employees using rattle can spray from NAPA for fifteen or twenty minutes. If a truck comes without cruise control or a back-up camera you can buy the part on Amazon and plug it in because the truck is already wired for it. If you pay extra for floor mats that are shipped with the truck, which they are, you are being taken.

But hey... if you like mashing the cash pedal, go for it.

I’d like to have the oem tailgate lock too. You can buy it and it’s not that expensive but the install looks pretty involved.

Sounds like your getting a good deal, or at least "good enough" especially for the world we live in today. I'd take the camera, IMO everyone should have one anyway. $600 is a lot of money for a dashcam, but it could potentially save you thousands later.
It couldn't be any easier, 1.5 hours tops. The instructions are very detailed and include pictures. If I can do it anybody can.

You mashed the reply button before you read the bit where I have a choice of what up charge to get, but there’s going to be an up charge no matter what.
