That is true. However, my local dealer is pretty big and their #1 complaint that they get daily is the 2 to 1 clunk. Not only #1 complaint for the Tacoma but #1 for all Toyota models...

Besides the erratic shifting , somebody else mentioned the rumblestrip vibration under deceleration between 30 and 10 mph . It’s really annoying and the TSB for the repair does not include the 2018s ? It’s still a problem. Hope your meeting is productive

Accelerating from 0, there's alot of give in the gas pedal before the truck moves, and when it moves, it's very sudden and bumpy.

1] Hunting for gears while climbing, staying in 4th gear after you pass the crest of a hill. 2] Jumping from 6th to 4th and skipping 5th while climbing. 3] Braking at a red light, it turns green, you hit the gas and feel nothing for seconds... then all of the sudden an abrupt acceleration.

It may be a good idea to copy and paste all the suggestions here and to print them out so they can be read by the team sent to work with you . Probably going to be too much to remember and it will be as if they dealt with many people all on the same day .

I second this request. There is a problem with a fix. Why do we have to beg, and stand on our heads to get the fix applied.

This is what I was going to add. With #1 it is worse with cruise control on. It holds the gear for what seems like forever after crest of hill.

-When turning at say 25mph then accelerating after the turn the trans immediately upshifts into fourth as you apply the gas then as you press further down it must downshift to third gear right away. It should never have shifted up to begin with.

-Between 20-40 mph the torque converter shutters giving a engine miss type feeling when at a gradual increase in speed/acceleration.

-Hard 2-1 downshift but it is so random when/why it happens.

-Shift flare or lazy 3-4 shift at times.

-Overall the engine & transmission seem to fight each other like two different companies wrote the programming & said good enough.

The aggressive downshifting on the highway up the tiniest incline and then refusing to shift back to the appropriate gear for what seems likes 30+ seconds is crazy annoying in a hilly region. Wakes up passengers!

My new working theory is this:
The latest TSB is (yet another) stopgap, and some of the more dangerous issues are cited in the TSB to get immediate support for those affected.
While many of us know the latest TSB is a RADICAL improvement over prior ECU calibrations, there are still some hesitations that occur and some have reported detonation issues (the slight miss, or bump feeling on a smooth surface)
Perhaps yet another TSB is in the works based on additional feedback they are gathering to finally solidify the tune
Once said TSB is released a more broad, sweeping update campaign could take place to address all trucks

I don't think Toyota is done figuring out how to tune this truck and when they feel like they have, it will be easier for folks to get the updates.

And, I could be completely wrong about all of this. So take it FWIW

I agree. It sounds like they're taking complaints and listening. That's a really good sign.

If you could ask who chose the ratio for reverse in the manual, and proceed to slap that person, would greatly be appreciated.

Agreed. ECT helps a lot in my opinion.

I don't like ECT. Once you take your foot off the gas, the revs really slow your speed. And it feels jerky to me.

Thats not a 3rd gen specific issue. Seems a lot of 3rd gen guys are expecting these trucks to ride/feel/operate like luxury cars while still being able to adventure offload.. No gunna happen. Learn to deal with the "quirks"

Is this from the warped Axel's / brake shudder? Mine does this too but I assumed it was warped drums.

This! With the biggest being Number 1 & 2. I cannot get the truck to shift down after passing, or cresting a hill. Its incredibly frustrating - the newest TSB has made no difference to this.

Yup, I agree with you. The pedal does become jerky and or sensitive with ECT on in my experience. It's just a pain to drive in town with such low end power.

My 2018 has only 500 miles on it so far and it’s been doing it since I got it , def in the driveline , I’ve seen many complaints about this issue and Toyota has a tsb for 16 and 17s but it does not include the 18 model year , but from what I’m hearing it’s still a common problem . I think even more so on the sr5
