Bank of Canada rate, which I am having trouble googling for some reason, is well under 1%. I believe it's at 0.5%. I don't know anyone here with sub 2% loans of any kind. The best rate I've seen offered is about 2.49% from a bank, and that was a mortgage rate.

I think your bank rates have more to do with how vulnerable the American banking system is than anything else. There are quite a few more laws around lending up here than there is in the USA.

I recieved price of $500 above invoice because I was willing to travel to save me from paying MSRP. I got a quote from an Internet manager a few hours away at below invoice and took it to my local dealer and offered $500 above. They wrote it up, found the truck I wanted allocated to another dealer in the SE and snagged for their inventory showing it sold, and now I am waiting for it.

I flew from Myrtle Beach to Ft Lauderdale to save $2500 on my MX5 purchase. I MADE $2500 to travel. Flight was $89 Drive back was priceless. I have no problem with "fly and buy". I do have a problem paying MSRP on any vehicle. I simply refuse to do it. Being retired I have nothing but time I look at it as being paid to make a good deal, not what it cost me.

That said, I have a $500 deposit, and a signed offer for my truck at $500 above invoice plus ttl. The truck is not here yet. I don't have a VIN but have not called them since placing the order. (Don't want to appear too anxious)

Will they play shenanigans when it comes in? Who knows? I purchased two vehicles from this dealership in the past year. All have been easy great deals. If they pull the rug out, I will buy from the original dealer who quoted me below invoice or shop around in December.

In my case, I sold my truck fast and have the Miata to run around in and the wife's CRV so I don't have to be in a hurry.

You can also spend plenty of time admiring your collection of +$5K watches while you wait on your Tacoma.

    Sorry I had to :).

I've only ever bought through fleet... no way I ever speak to your standard sales person. You're confusing getting a different pricing structure (fleet pricing) versus simply buying the car through the fleet department (which from your perspective I can understand the confusion because I wasn't specific). I get better pricing, NO HAGGLING (IF you do get the same pricing, you'll be there forever haggling your way down). I make a call, show up, sign papers and I'm out of there. The sales person gets a % of the profit, therefore they're not keen on lowering the price... fleet generally gets paid simply on volume - simply gives you their price and you take it or leave it. Much simpler process that usually ends up with a much lower price (not always - took me six dealerships to find a dealer that would forgo the fees that are reimbursed by the factory).

I learned this from having a friend that owns a lot of dealerships and spending a lot of time there (not to mention my wife worked for Honda for years). I've spoken to numerous fleet managers, every single one of them simply gave me the price, emailed me the invoice - and it's a take it or leave it scenario. Very simple.

    :notsure:

I also have a friend/customer that owns many Ford dealerships. They do not sell to individuals at "fleet" price. Then again, my experience at there dealership locally has been that they don't dick around on pricing much to begin with.

Then again, you are just getting a flat price from the sound of it. My fleet price, or negotiated price, is probably much lower.

Then again, it's not worth arguing about. Which is why I tried to just drop it. In my experience internet sales are used to get people into the dealership, and usually have the most room to play with there price. Especially if you throw out a number from another dealer.

You need to reread my post... on both points. I never said anything about fleet pricing.

No, but you did suggest that the best price was through the fleet department. Which, given you are just some random individual calling on the phone, is not true in my experience.

An internet salesperson has one shot to get you into the dealer, so they give you a very low price. Also, the internet sales people tend to be the ones with the most "power" given by management. It's not unheard of for an internet deal to go down at 11 pm when the sales manager isn't around so they get better direction on how low they can go. Fleet salespeople do care about volumes, but in the same vein they are there to attract clients who will be buying several vehicles a year. If you hook a small business, that's a steady supply of cash sales coming your way. That's why they don't care much about one offs, and will probably just pull a price from the sales manager.

Yes, you can also get a good deal through internet - but I prefer fleet, they're on a different commission structure. Hell, try both. No, they don't pull prices from the sales manager typically. It's generally the easiest way to get the best price - which has been my experience and the advice of those who are in the business. Of course, there are many variable that can affect this... is it truly a fleet manager? Location (competition), dealer philosophy - etc. My basic point to others is never walk in the front door and speak to a salesperson.

There is no way you are getting a price from the fleet manager unless you are buying for a business and have done business with that dealership in the past. That's like saying the shop foreman is going to do all your free oil changes because you asked for him to do the changes in your sale. People at a dealership aren't given their roles arbitrarily and neither do they go out of their way to make sales for someone else who has that job.

You can always talk to a salesman. Actually, the best piece of advice with them is to walk away if you don't like what you hear but remember their name. If you do get a better price somewhere else, and you're really trying to get the best deal, shot him an email and ask him to match and write you a $200 rebate cheque. You'd be surprised how often that would work around here.

Do you also get all your service handled by the service manager and have the owner do up your financing paperwork?

Sorry, I had to go there. :). It's all good. If you know the dealer maybe you did get your price from the fleet manager. No way in hell though a random emailer or caller is getting a price from the fleet manager, he'll deflect that to whoevers job it really is. Because, you know, they hire people for that while he's working on getting a half million dollar client to stay with all Tundra's at his business.

not even close to apples to apples... that's called a strawman.

those 2 minutes it takes for the fleet manager to give me a quote is far different than the hours it can take repairing a car.
